Has Anyone who has a yellow tang experience aggressiveness towards inverts?

A week ago brought home a purple reef safe lobster to find him being pecked at by the yellow tang (antenna was first to go, than little legs), did the same thing with the turbos trying to peck underneith their shells, whats up with that?

RIP Purple Lobster ...

Like almost all fish if they think they can eat some thing they will. The Tang saw them as a food sorce and decided to eat them, which in the case of the lobster it did.

I felt bad for the little guy, you think he would do that with a cleaner shrimp?

Lobster are pretty tough and if it's still alive there a good chance that over time it will regrow the parts back. As for the shrimp it maybe hit or miss. Since it's a cleaner shrimp the tang may leave it only and actually use it to clean itself but some fish don't care about whether some thing is a cleaner, whether a fish or invert, and just eat it.

I can't see a yellow tang picking thru the shell of a lobster, they are not a natural predator of shell fish. And the lobster should be able to hide in the rocks where the YT can't pick at it, unless you didn't provide some hiding places for it.

Is it the one you got from Mark?
If so, it used to be mine. I NEVER had a problem like that with her & I have alot of inverts. Wasn't aggresive to other fish neither.
I never heard of a tang doing that at all.
What are you feeding her?

BTW: I don't think the Reef Lobsters are reef safe.

Wow....she was a trooper.
She went through alot & was one of my first fish:(

Anyhow your new tang needs more veggies. The stuff you're feeding has no nutritional value for them.
You need seaweed sheets, spirulina, roman lettuce / broccoli, etc.
The other stuff you are feeding can be done occasionally.

Besides that....maybe your new tang is gangsta~
