In the first 2 pics, all I see is red slime algae or diatoms. If it's RSA, it can be siphoned using air tubing. In all likelihood, it'll return the next day unless its cause is eliminated. For diatoms, increase your cleanup crew or let the tank age some more.

what causes it. nutrients in the water are a likelyhood. so i cut back on feeding. cause i usually feed the guys about 3 times a day. 2 times i feed them flakes. and the 3rd is the nori that stays in there for like 5 hours then i take it out. and i feed them every other day bryne shrimp.

Your feeding too much definetly, I feed once every 2 days or a little bit every day, nothing goes to waste, diatoms, slime algae are one of those cycling algaes. It should go away when the nutrients do, but w/o sounding crass its going to be hard with 2 tangs as they are waste factories

BTW what size is the tank? do you have a sump? skimmer? how often do u do WC and what%?

yea the big guys are moving to the 75 gallon when ready. i have 195 watt pc lighting. its a 29 gallon been setup now for about 4 months. 45 lbs of live rock. prizm skimmer which really does kick some but with the crap getting removed from the water. everytime i empty the collection cup its a dark green.

so i guess ill cut down on feeding. i do about 5 gallon waterchange once a week. which im doing right now and cleaned the skimmer and going to clean the hob filter i have and the other powerhead.

Yeah cutting down on feeding will help ALOT, also one thing whats your temp at? I ask becuase its a little known fact that when the temp rises so does the metabolism of your fish i.e. more poop is produced, if its above 80 try to keep it around 76-78 it will help tremendously w/ poop production..lol

Im glad your moving the tangs, they'll love you for it, speaking of loving you..lol...how about getting rid of the 195W of PC and getting a 150W or 250W MH? I know the anenome will be happy and you'll have shimmer lines B)

yeahhh boyyy!

Tony the brown stuff on your sandbed is cyano and is common in tanks that are new or tanks with high nutrients. I would suggest you increase the size of your water changes because your current setup isn't capable of handling your bioload. Even though you see some waste collection from the prizim skimmer, they don't do a very good job.You should do a search for "The skimmer thread" so you can see some really good skimmer in action. BUT...i don't think adding a larger skimmer on a 29gal is very cost effective so like I said, increase the size of the water changes.

Rich

I agree w/ Rich I thought you said 25% WC, 5% is nothing to reduce nutrients, BTW cyano is usually red, diatoms, as are dinoflagellates are brown, unless the pic color is off.

Hey dude,
Youre moving along!! What the guys said above is definitely the way to go. There is a current thread here now with stuff for sale here . Getting some halides in there will do some nice things for you. Forget the positives it brings to your inhabitants but the difference optically that it will make for your eyes is amazing. Colors pop, the tank shimmers. If you dont want to buy a new setup you can get some cheap retrofit diy lights at hellolights . Also if getting a new skimmer is not an option cause you need to save up then just go with water changes alot of water changes.
Good luck dude!!

Diatoms are a water quality issue. So if you are not using a RO/DI dont bother with water changes as that may be the cause of your problem. If you dont have a RO/DI filter than try one of the chemical sponges to solve your problem.

yea with my 75 gallon im gonna do either a remora urchin or a asm g2 or g3 in sump. the sump will be a 20 gallon long. so we will see what happens waiting for my rock that i made to cure. 1st batch is already cured and in the tank (75 gallon)

so for feeding what should i do i dont want to starve them. the tangs look like there getting bigger. i dont want to starve em. i no the anemone doesnt like alot of light for some reason. it took him some getting used to, to my lights. he was under 40 watts day and 40 watts actinic when i got him from the store and he was thriving. he is used to my lights finally. i no u can feed the anemone about 2 times a week. he usually jus picks up the passing food with his tentacles i watch and make sure.

so what should i do to feed.

a little flakes once a day and seaweed sheets in the tank for 5 hours a day. cause then it gets loose. and feed bryne shrimp once or twice a week. for example one cube once a week should be enough.

thanks in advance

RO/DI is key!

if you cant get the funds for one, if you can find cheap distilled water it will work just as good. Tap water and tap water conditioners for that matter, wont give you the purity you need.

Alot of people feed their fish more sparingly than 1 every 2 days and they are fine, I know it might seem selfish but they'll be happier in the end w/ cleaner water to breath/live in. Just make sure nothing goes to waste.

Like for me I know both my Starki and my 4-line eat about 10 pellets each, (yea im OCD..lol)

you just "get to know" your fish's gut

I mean you can spoil them every once in awhile but try to do it right before a WC, works for me :)
