So i found a skimmer that fits my tank perfect just want to know if anyone uses one. Its the Marineland Seaclone 100. How are they is it quiet? Would it do the job on my 46g?
well first the the used remora i got does not work right we are still trying to fix it. and it was too loud. trying to find something somewhat quiet that will fit on my tank.
iam so confused with protein skimmers it not even funny. one person tells me ones good than someone else says it ****. plus my situation is different i made the mistake of only leaving barely 5" from my tank to wall so right there that limits me as to which skimmer i can run. also on the glass tops on tanks the last inch and a half is that plastic trim so you can make cutouts for whatever is on your tank. Well alot of the skimmers waterfalls and intake tubes go to far so you cant even use the plastic piece and even sometimes the glass gets in the way. hope you understand. Really i want the CPR Aeroforce but i have not seen one in person and cannot determine if it will fit. I know the Seaclone will fit that is why iam considering it.
Only problem with the air stone is you have to replace it every so often and it's really inefficient. I had the Seaclone 150 and trust me I was better off just saving my money.
I've been through practically everybrand of skimmer HOB. I highly recommend you buy either a Tunze DOC 9002 (if you are very concerned about noise and performance)-- spend the 150 bucks its worth it. It clears the glass top.
The CPR skimmers (which I have had 2) are old technology and do not operate as well as the remora or Tunze. I would have recommended the Octopus but it won't clear your space between the wall.
I've had 3 Remora's and they all worked great. The Remora Skimmer that was sold to you was at one point mine and it operated flawlessly and was silent. What you want to do is make sure that when you lift the cup that the left chamber is covered so you do not hear an air sucking noise.
Based on the information I've got on our site regarding the AeroForce (great skimmer BTW), the dimensions are: [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Aero Force Body Size: 7.5" wide, 3.25" deep, 17" height
Here's a link to the AeroForce
FYI, they are IN STOCK right now.
I don't know about anyone else. But I'm using a Seaclone in my sum under my 75G tank. I removed the long tube because I don't hang it in the back. It's quiet, constantly produces bubbles and every Saturday I have to go dump the almost full collector. Maybe I don't know better, but I'm happy with it.
I also use a Coral Life on my other tank, I think I need to clean the removable collector part or it seems to stop working. It's quiet and it's the only one that fits inside my stand.
Good to know that the Seaclone is working out for you. I am sure it works for some people, but in MANY cases I have seen it over and over again that it stinks. For the money one pays, one can do better.
Also I have no idea what you keep in your tank, but I go fish heavy and feed a lot and still keep simple sps. Keep in mind that the skimmer cup on the Seaclone is small. I empty out my skimmer cup every 3 days and the cup is ginormous. (I run a really wet skim and have to clean my skimmer neck)
I wish I had kept all my skimmers I have owned and done a comparison but... I don't have the room/time/money. I will do a Comparo between my Octopus and Tunze 9005 soon, for the benefit of many.
