hey guys i have a question, what are the difference between these lights?

power compact
t5
vho
metal halide

does a 175 watt pc = to 175 t5?
is t5 = pc?

metal halides are the strongest lighting u can get for a reef tank. not really need for a fish only system.

vho are used instead of metal halides. (very High Output) enough of these are good for corals.

PC - are bright but not as intense as the 2 bulbs listed above.

T5's VHO's (T12's) are florescent bulbs - PC's (power compacts floures, but not as strong as VHO's or T5's (this is hotly depabed though) and halides are the closest thing to real sun you can get (so everyone says).

Each has it's positives and negatives.

Halides - run hot, can be expensive, and suck electricity
T5's T12's - don't run as hot, are less expensive, but can be bulky and long
PC's can be good if used correctly, but are also, mostly to weak for good coral keeping and tent to bloom algea when bulbs re old.

Hope that helps, absent a FAQ for lighting, this is a very complicated question - I recommend you read about lighting for about 6 months to get caught up.

i have some corals and i was think about a odyssea what you guys think?
i like metal halide but it is to expensive to keep. i was thinking if i get a t5 aroun 175 watts for my 55 gal would that give me a 3 watts per gallon?
