Hi I justed tested my 10g water that i have made for a water change for today, I got Sal at 1.026 and cal 380 but mag at 1120?? That means thar I have to dose magnesium , my ? Is can I dose a cap right now in my water that I'm going to use for a change , I'm now thinking of using another salt I've never had problem till recently , I'm goin to make the jump to esv

I always get 1120 mag with reefcrystals but the calcium is always above 450 alk fluctuates then again I haven't tested new water since last year

That sucks cuz they make it seem like reef crystals is the best cuz it has extra of everything. I guess Im goin to have to dose some mag to bump it up to 1200 at least , I just added a cap to the water that I'm goin to use for the water change, i've been reading alot about salts I'm goin to try esv next when I'm done with my 200g box

I don't like io cuz I have to dose cal like crazy just to have it at 430 , reef crystals has high calcium but low mag and io has a nice mag but low cal , it's hard to choose period but so far alot of guys here say esv is doing its thing

how bit is the tank? it might be worth it to switch to a premium salt if you aren't changing much water. I use D-D H2Ocean and my params are spot on after every water change.

55g with a 10g sump, I usually change 10g every week but I'm goin to start to do 5gallon

all salts are inconsistent. the guy who clains instant ocean is perfect for his reef has some crappy test kits.
plan on adding something for any salt, depending on what you want to achieve.
if you have a tank full of shrooms and zoas, use whatever salt you want and test, ...whenever.
if you would like to keep very expensive and touchy corals, no salt mix is going to do it for you without some tweaking.

I'm curious why mixing IO n RC would be a bad idea? Thought about doing that myself. Or maybe IO one week RC next?

I dont think switching back and forth would be a good idea due to the inconsistency of the trace elements.
Blending would even that out.

mr x has a point, who actually uses the salt mix straight out of the box?

I use IO and dose two part.

Ive been lazy lately and mixing it straight out of the box but my tank parameters are usually 9.3 dkh 380 cal 1150 mag calcium reactor runs 24-7 and i dose some mag when i remember to

i use whatever salt and dose whatever im missing, usually Reef Crystals and DD H20, its easier/safer to raise mag IMO than calc.

Can I add magnesium to my top off water? So my tank would get a fresh supply?
