It seems like most people have some sort of cover on there tank to avoid jumpers, right now i have 2 false perc's, 1 algea blenny, and a cream angel, and i am running open top i did have an egg crate top to make me feel better but it blocks so much light i took it off, with these fish am i asking for trouble with no top or do you think i will be safe?

Thanks, Ryan

Yes .Any fish will jump if spooked or because they feel like jumping.Try plexy glass or mesh to cover your tank.

keeping a cover will difinity prevent a fish from jumping out, also helps with evaporation and saltcreep, is not that expensive to buy a cover or a peice of glass, small investments like this can do maricles.

I like having no top on my tank. I had my goby, clown, etc. for a number of years without problems. However, I did have a jumper, so I understand. The benefit of top less is also on gas exchange from fresh air.

For me, I thought that if a fish gets spooked they would jump. Also, if they are harassed from an aggressive fish.

For years I had an aggressive tank. I switched to very peaceful fish and had not had problems.

Also, with a top, you get less evaporation.

So I guess it's just your choice.

Good luck.

open top will always be a greater risk for jumpers. however u can reduce that risk by avoiding high risk jumper fishes like dartfishes, wrasses, anthias, etc....

open top does allow higher exchange of oxygen level in the water and can allow heat to escape faster.
