that's still too high in watts for me.

take a look at the gri (gorman rupp) i just replaced my t4 with the 960gpm model it is a little less flow not much but the wattage is cut in half and i dropped my tank temp 3 degrees this pump is also near silent.

how about the,
Tunze Turbelle Pump/Powerhead 7400/2

Pump wattage: 6 - 44 W
Pumping head H.max: 0.8 - 2.2m (31.4 - 110.2 in.)

if I'm sending the return straight up 4' I might see 800-900gph?

I don't think you can use a stream as a return...The new pumps do look good, too bad they don't make smaller submersible ones to replace mags.
