And as far as the Corals i drop in live phyto 2 days per week.

Is this adequate or should i be giving more of a variety and if so what should i be doing different?

Thanks, Ryan

flakes are usually loaded with unwanted minerals.. but they are a ballanced diet.. some with bigger systems make there own food... i feed rinced frozen brine and plankton with garlic extract. and flake once in a while.. phyto 2 days a week... as long as your levels are good and everyone is happy i wouldnt change anything... me ,i'm an overfeeder..lol

You might want to add in some forumula 1 pellets, the small kind, and maybe some formula 2 in a smaller amount. It lets you put in less, 'cause you can just put in a little bit as a time as things feed until they start ignoring it, and it won't wind up in your sump if you feed with the returns on. Also, hermits and brittle stars and anemones love the stuff.

Also, frankly, the phyto isn't doing anything. Unless you've got some monster skimmer hooked up and perfect, 0 nitrates and phosphates, you've got phytoplankton running in your system. In fact, most of your corals like larger, meatier bits, the kind that eat food anyway. Most zoos don't seem to really feed much, but many palythoas and pseudopalythoas will feed quite actively on surprisingly large food items. The Xenia doesn't feed. The hairy mushrooms are quite active eaters and will probably love a few pellets of Formula 1 dropped on 'em a few times a week, or mysis, or whatever. They're not picky. The KT can certainly thrive without feeding -- they're weeds, really -- and if you are going to feed it, something like DT's oyster eggs or finely macerated shellfish or even cyclop-eez would be appropriate.

As to your feeding schedule -- you'll get better growth the more you feed. My suggestion would be 2x day on the fish feedings -- or even more, smaller feedings if you're just around and near the tank on a weekend or something.

Oh, if you don't have one already, I suggest getting a brittle star or a serpent star, one per thirty gallons or so. They're -great- at vacuuming up loose food.

Edit: I should also say, frankly, if you feed your fish every day, there're no corals in your tank that absolutely -require- any kind of regular feeding, so you can basically base your decision on how often to feed the corals on how your nitrates and phosphates are lookin'. ;)

You have corals that don't require feeding. I would either get corals that do or cut back. Seems like a larger effort for little gain.

+1 on the starfish. I have them and they really clean up. Stay away from the green brittle. They are suspected fish killers.
