Mine were doing that a couple of hours ago. But it hasn't gone out totally! Hopefully it is done with the flickering. I am not even going to bother with dialing in the skimmer until these winds die down.
I'm pretty sure it is the winds tugging at the wires coming into the house. I am so happy the next door neighbor took down that tree that leaned on our wires.;)

Its because of the wind causing the tree branches to hit the wires- dont harp on it the wind has been at its worst so unless it kicks up a bit youre power will be fine- If it does kick up and actually causes branches down they may take the wires with them- but I dont think thats gonna happen tonight

I got no trees lol But I do agree its the wires getting tugged the wind is crazy out there. I just had to chase my garbage can down the block.

Glad my PC has a UPS so I can stay on the through the flickers.

What do you think about the halides should I turn them off will the flickering damage the ballasts?

YOU dont need to have trees- your on a grid- where certain transformers feed a certain amount of blocks- Even if you lived on a farm with 100 acres of land- If any of the wires that feed your grid are near trees-and they are- they get hit by the branches in turn cause your lights to flicker. The transformer across the street from me whenever it gets hit by lightning or by branches is the one that effects my lights- because Im on the grid that one gives power to. Youd be surprised how the power company has the grids laid out.

If turning the halides off for a night would make you feel better sure why not- is probably not the best thing for them to go through so it wont hurt ditchin them for the night

My power has been out since 4:10 this afternoon :(
While I do have a generator that runs almost the entire house (ALL of my tanks, pond air, furnace..) we neglected to change the circuit for the fridge when we recently redid the kitchen & bathrooms. At least I didn't buy too much at the market this morning.

We had a few issues with the generator, so it was off for almost the entire the first hour of the power outage. I keep battery operated air-pumps for all of the tanks, so I turned those on asap.

Currently the lights are off on the tanks (ok... it is the middle of the night..lol) as are the reactors and skimmers, but heat, return pumps, Vortechs and powerheads are all on (2 FW & 3 SW). I only have a bubbler running in the pond at this point and that is also on.

I should think my neighbors are ready to disown us as the generator is making a huge amount of noise..too bad folks, I almost feel guilty but my fish are ok :spin:

Me & my sons GF had to drive somewhere earlier and the damage out there is depressing..the amount of trees knocked down by the wind was staggering. We passed trees caught up in wires that were dangling above the sidestreets that looked as though nobody had noticed them yet. Huge old stately trees in Oceanside & Rockville Centre were strewn everywhere. The tree damage on Peninsula Blvd in RVC made me cringe.

The 2 utility poles on the avenue near my home have had LIPA crews at them since early on and have had new poles at the trucks for a good 5 or 6 hours now, yet they seem to be making no progress in getting the poles up. I am getting frustrated at this point, though I woud like to think there is a valid reason for the slow progress.

The flooding at high tide (around 7PM here) was bad and I don't expect it will be much better during the next one at 8:30 AM. My block is pretty good but Long Beach went as far as not allowing folks over the bridge as the West End and the main avenue were all flooded badly.

Crossing my fingers that everyone here suffers no losses!

I got so luck yesterday!!! Most houses around me lost power for 7hrs and I must of been on a diffrent circuit because I had power thruout the storm. I was not ready for this storm at all!!!
Going to my office tank soon to see that tank, but phones worked all night so i should be fine.

My power flickered a few times, but held on thank God!!;)

Flooding was pretty bad, but the only real damage is a portion of the stockade fence got blown over.:( Not sure who the fence belongs to, since it was there when we purchased the house. Wish it belongs to the neighbor, as I am pretty certain I won't have any help fixing it.LOL

No power since noon yesterday. For my area, per Con Ed they say possibly around 3-6 pm tonight for restoration of power. I'm at work now so kinda helpless. Roofing shingles blew off. House was watertight as of last night but my neighbor called & he has water coming in so I have my fingers crossed & hope the roofer calls back. I covered tank to keep in heat & used tupperware & plastic bags w/warm water in attempt to raise temperature but when I peeked in this morning all the tangs & anthias were belly up. My next concern is the corals. Hopefully the power will be on soon. Hope others are having better luck than me.

Sorry to hear SIReefer- hope you dont lose too much

Hey Kathy if they were prepared to handle a power outage themselves they wouldnt hear your generator over theirs! lol

Everyone should move to Hicksville I think- Its not a great town BUT my lights didnt so much as flicker in the last 6 storms....not to mention we have strong trees lol I didnt see but 1 tree with branches that snapped in my neighborhood- and the house it was directly in front of Still had power
