Hi Everyone...

I recently set up my 60 gal and am in need of about 50-70 lbs of live rock.

I know I can get it very cheaply in various places on the internet (petsolutions.com, ipsf, inlandaquatics, ffexress, etc.)

BUT am also wondering if anyone here have recommendations on where to go for live rock in manhattan? I stopped by the infamous New World Aquarium and walked out with a 9lbs piece for $78 bucks... It's nice, but I'm not sure I want to pay 7.99/lb.

Any tips on where else to go within the area would be appreciated.

thanks all!

Fish Town USA has LR @ 3.99/4.99 per #. I belive you would have to cure it. The price is right. I picked up a few pieces and was suprizesd with the macro algae on it.

For that quantity, I think you're much better of getting it online. We can recommend some places, do you have a preference as to type?

I've had good luck at Aquatic Treasure in Queens. He generally has a decent amount, and sells it for $5-6/lb.

Consider Gulf View online. You call, he dives,
is off to the airport, and the rock shows up at your door the next morning. I absolutely love
what i received and will never buy the boring
brown and purple stuff again. All sorts of life including several corals, a variety of sponges, a cool though evil looking black slug which only comes out at night, two small and reef friendly crabs, some hidden cup coral, limpets, assorted small worms and feather dusters, and plenty of purple and some orange corraline algae. After 6 months I am amazed at the things that are growing. Way cheaper than local to boot. The pictures on the site don't exxagerate, That is pretty much how it looked when I got it in.

Thanks everyone for all your help... I've placed two order (one from gulf view and the other from ffexpress). They're both suppose to arrive today, so i'm looking forward to seeing what comes in the box.

Keeping my fingers crossed on NOT receiving a mantis shrimp...

"The shrimp were good news, too, for Keith Harvey, a member of a dredging crew that dug up the five specimens of the stomatopod, Lysiosquillina maculata, while working to clear the canal of two decades' worth of silt and trash. Mr. Harvey dared to nab the biggest one, a 15-inch, 1.35-pound monster, using a stick and a gloved hand as it flopped in the muck on the crew's barge."

basicly it found refuge in a marine dump and gre to a massive size.
