Tank flowrate should be determined by the livestock you plan on keeping. A FOWLR w/sand would require much less flow than a bare-bottom SPS only reef.

Deanos, im thinking a mixed community tank with little of everything. fish, corals, etc. also, i know i have asked this before but G2 or G3 skimmer, or is there a better choice for me? might end up overstocking it. thanks

G3! For a few dollars more, you get a bigger skimmer and stronger pump. Another alternative I've read on RC's ASM Skimmer thread, is to get a G2 w/the Sedra 5000 pump, if space is a problem.

Nsr - recommended turn over is 10x tank volume (altough Deanos is right - it depends on the tank community).

My tank is a 180 - total volume is 240 - I have a 1750 return, a 1850 tunze and a gravity feed fuge (who the heck knows, perobably another 100gph)

I am well over 10x and have a mixed reef community.

thanks house,

i will be using a mag7 as a return. so i guess i need 2 seio 820s in a 72gal? or one is good enough? that will be way over the 10x turnover rate no? thanks for all the help guys.

This sounds like my flow setup from last month. I have since swapped in an Eheim 1060 for the return.

yeah i think i should just start with another pump too. since the stories about mag pump screws rusting isn't helping much. or is there a way to change out the screws?
