Some of my zoas an polys seem to be staying closed for about 3 weeks. I have also noticed thatorange digitata's polyps are not coming out. And some sps seems to be having some die out from the bottom. Alk 9.0 mag 1360 cal 450 Sal 1.025. Po4 0. IsVit possible that gfo and carbon are taking out to many nutrients out of the water?

you could have over done the gfo in the tank, how big is the tank

Take the Carbon out temporarily... its burning it.

Ok. I did a water change and discontinued carbon and am running half the gfo. I am thinking maybe I should only run carbon twice a week for a day at a time. Any opinions?

dont discontinue carbon, it wont take out nutrients, it takes out the harmfull chemicals released by stressed out organisms in the tank I.E. your zoas and sps. It could possibly be the temperature. With the change of the seasons our tanks are suseptable to temp spikes. anything more that say 2 degrees in a day is bad, it also depends how hot it can get. So try to keep an eye and note down the temp every half hour over the course of the day. Hook up fans, ac, chiller what ever you got to help cool it down but then check that the heater is working that you dont go down too low.

just dont over load the tank with carbon, and measure out the gfo. Did off hand you feed the tank any thing like oyster feed

No oyster food. I think ijust had too much carbon. I discontinued and some things are strting to look better

that is good, I am happy the tank is looking better. Just the same way you measure out the gfo is the same way you can measure out carbon. off hand what carbon are you using
