how can I cure ICK

I have a purple and hippo tang for over a year and half with no problems..last week I added 3 chromis and an aglea blenny in my tank..and now my two tang have ick..

I start socking the food in garlic xtreme. what else can I do to help my two kids(tangs)...

without removing them because as you know NYC=small APT. no room for a next tank(hospital)

well i use kick-inh is a treatment for ich and is reef save i used sooo many time

kick ick + garlic worked pretty well for me too, but the ick will be in your system forever if you don't let the tank go fishless so the ick can cycle and die. i had to use kick ick a whole bunch of times in a row. basically for like a month and a half straight. i guess it helped my tang keep the ick away while the immune system got stronger from the garlic? i dunno, i'm guessing. but i'm treating all my fishes with hypo salinity still, it's working great. i've been doing it for the last 2 months now and they all seem fine. i'm only using a small 10 gallon with the minimal requirements for fish survival. i bought a hippo from fishtown with ich and an all scratched up belly. now it looks fine and it's all healing nicely. hth.

Happy fish and garlic doesn't hurt. I think Ick is generally in most systems but is exacerbated when the fish are stressed out(overcrowding etc..). I tried everything and although soaking food in garlic seemed to work, it may have been coincidence. Kick-Ick seemed like a money pit and didn't cure the problem (which BTW was years ago, haven't seen any ick in a very long time). Additionally, cleaners also are helpful.

try skunk (cleaner shrimps) if you dont have predatory fish. i have a blue hippo as well that had a slight ick problem at one point. The cleaner shrimp cleaned him up nicely.

CTXMONITOR-i believe they mean garlic extract. it's sold in pet stores, i assume.

i just got the ick problem after buying some fish from fishtown, i guess it comes with the price.i will continue to buy fish from them, but will now have a quarintine tank(which i should've had from the start)for my fish where i will treat any new arrivals with copper and praziquantel for fourty days. that's the suggested amount of time treatment should last, based on the ich thread on RC, recommnended by one reefer (sounds knowledgeable).i'll post my results here.

When you get fish in you should place them in a quartine tank but only treat them with copper if they show signs of dieases. If there isn't anything wrong with the fish your only going to stress them out even more by treating them with copper.

You can get garlic extract at any of the health store like GNC or you can use real garlic cloves, either way make sure you use plastic gloves as your hands are going to smell.

well, the reason i say i will treat all my fish in the future is because according to the thread ick and many other diseases may not be visible but are still present. alot of people do it with sps to keep red bugs out, they do and interceptor dip and quarantine just to be careful.the guy that suggested the treatment on the thread handles a very large quantity of fish on a frequent basis, and i know i don't come anything close to the volume he handles, but i just think, personally, i will play it safe from now on.

If you leave the fish in the quartine tank the for 2-4 weeks you will notice if the fish has ich anyway for 6-8 days as the ich will cycle though and you'll see it on the fish or the fish will show signs it has it.

People are treating sps for bugs is because they're so small you can notice them until quite away after placing them in your tank.

Also just because you read it on RC doesn't mean it's correct. There is no reason to treat fish with copper unless they have ich.

Well, on another board I am on, they recommend upping the temp to 82 degrees. This makes the ich cycle out completely in like 3 days. It also won't harm the corals and stuff if you move it up 1 degree every 12 hours or so. Everyone on this other list swears by it.

I also started keeping my tank at that temp and have never had it since.

update .I sock food in garlic xtrem and it's 80% better..the purple is bout 95% I use ot only feed once a day .now I increase to twice with the garlic

guys I'm going through this now, i got ich by not quarantining coral, I'm going to take all the fish out and keep them in a hospital tank for eight weeks. Read these articles, they will tell you everything you need to know. then you can make up your mind how you want to treat for it. there are a bunch of options.
