So I got this yellow watchman gobi as my first fish and he has survived an ich breakout that killed everything else in the tank.
He also survived after I found him swimming at the surface a totally different color (was obviously close to death). I did a bunch of water
changes and he was fine.

I upgraded my 34 gal tank to a 75 2 days ago and in the process i couldn't find the yellow watchman gobi. I checked all the rocks And couldn't find him anywhere. The rocks spent atleast 5 min out of water then a few hours in a bucket with water filled with deritus
From the rocks. So I figure he's dead and change everything over to the new tank. I'm looking at the new tank and after a day I see movement under 1 of the rocks after closer inspection who do I see but the watchman gobi!!!

Congrats on finding him. I love good news :)

...do be sure to keep your eye on the new 75 upgrade for a cycle of some sort - you should be testing for ammonia each day ;)

I had a similar experience with a niger trigger. I was converting my tank from crushed coral to live sand. I put all my fish in the bucket and could not find the trigger. Trigger was black and is normally not hard to find.

So I took out everything, took about 2 hours. Figured I lost my pet and was pissed. Then, after I put everything back and 1 day later I saw my trigger. Never new where he went. I guessed he was hidden in some live rock ( if possible). Had him for many years. Very strong fish, while I learned about reef.

One thing about fish, is some that survive through tough water conditions, will do fine. However, if water quality is not good, then, a new fish coming into such a change can do poorly and not survive. Kind of like, the original fish, had adapted to the tough conditions over time and the new fish, could not adapt so quickly.
