I HIGHLY recommend replacing that heater. Heaters are the #1 piece of equipment to fail in this hobby. When they do fail they can cook and wipe out a tank in a matter of hours.

Brand new heaters are no less susceptible to failure than used heaters. Your heater being used is certainly at risk. The fact that your heater malfunctioned due to a power outage leaves a whole lot of concern and skepticism on my part. Even if it didn't malfunction and only reset itself I wouldn't trust it.

Heaters are cheap enough. I'd get yourself a better heater than Finnex. We actually stopped carrying Finnex about two years ago. We had more failures with Finnex than any other brand. I'd be checking out Eheim-Jager or Via Aqua Titanium for hobbyist grade heaters.

Good luck
Russ

PS - Another recommendation is to get two undersized heaters for redundancy and protection from cooking the tank if one fails. The odds are slim that two heaters would fail at the same time. Therefore, if you need 300w of heaters in total, get two 150w heaters instead. This way if one fails in the on position, it doesn't generate enough heat to cook your tank. But it will warm it up enough so that it doesn't freeze either.

Hope this helps,
Russ (again :) )
