Yes Mattl22
I made one and I think I'm making success with it.
Not sure if its a proper turf scrubber though.
But I had it installed in the back of my 14 gallon biocube and after a few months running it, my GHA problem got solved.
I just can't find the posts on it, but the idea was to put the light behind the middle compartment of my tank, then install a plastic mesh screen in the mid chamber and expose it to light on a timer basis. Then I just let the time and GHA do its thing. I don't harvest much GHA from there, but I like that its gone from my display part of the tank!

That type of algae does grow quicker.
Just seems to ands fire hazard and high maintenance for little result.
Also, aren't we striving for water conditions that don't allow those kinds of algae to grow?

3/4 the display is more than what most people have in their complete sump area. For smaller tanks its possible and worth it, and alot of people do have a 1/2-3/4 fuge are for small tanks but once your in the 90-300g range that is alot of area to house a fuge.

Its the same fire hazard as running a fuge light and the end result is quite impressive.

These things work and remove alot of stuff out of your tank for what they are worth.

Alot of people haven't mastered controlling their waste or just have a well stocked and well fed fish tank which is for the most part everyones goal. And unless your keeping a barebottom, fishless tank and doing daily water changes you will have some nitrates and Po4 in your tank. Its impossible to have a bio load and not have Po4. And that little Po4 in your tank will create algae if the conditions are right for it to grow. The only reason you don't see algae in alot of peoples low nutrient low Po4 tanks is that its not the perfect place to grow in the display. People are just utilizing the appetite of algae and super growing it in the right conditions to their benefit.

Put a turf scrubber in the cleanest SPS tank and you will see algae growing on the mesh. I can put money on it.
