So I was put in a small dilemma.

A co-worker of mine knows that I have a saltwater tank, which was ok until earlier today. He calls me up and tells me that a friend of his is moving and needs to get rid of his live stock. The majority of it was gone except a sailfin tang and a few hermits. He basically forced the sailfin tang on me (free btw) because it's owner was leaving tomorrow afternoon.

I met up with him and picked up the tang. It's about 4 and a half inches long and looks to be in pretty good shape. His tail has a very small spot where its slightly discolored, but aside from that he looks fine. Now my tank is done cycling and I ordered my first fish from Will's Water World - a powder brown tang. I am picking up the brown tang tomorrow afternoon, but heres my question: Will the sailfin and the powder brown get along? I have a 75 gallon tank with about 120 lbs. of live rock.

Thanks!

Since they're both being introduced at around the same time, and are different shaped tangs, you have a chance of them being ok together. The issue I would be concerned with is the sudden bioload of 2 tangs being introduced at once.

Assuming they get along, keep a close watch on parameters until the tank becomes more established.

its iffy both fish can hold their own but they might go at it for a few days.

Best bet when adding the new fish keep your lights off or just a few moon lights thats what I do it tends to keep my other fish calmer and easier going on new comers.

Quick update here:

They are getting along GREAT! Turned off all the lights last night after introducing the powder brown and he headed straight for where the sail fin was resting. They stayed in the same spot last night and today they're both swimming around freely. No aggression, no bullying. no nothing.
