I am going to buy a Phosban reactor 150 and was wondering what media to use. I am deciding between using the biopellets that i have heard of recently, the standard Phosban media, or using activated carbon. I know I can have 2 medias but I don't want to mix them because of the different life periods of the media. So, in your own opinion, what is the best media to use in this reactor and why? Also, do the biopellets require more flow? Will a mini-jet 404 still suffice?

Im using pellets in my reactor and then I have carbon in a mesh bag in my sump where there is a lot of flow. Just keep in mind for pellets a MJ 404 will not cut it. Im still not sold on the pellets but people have had good success with them.

So I say either phosban media/pellets in reactor and carbon in mesh bag.

I would get two reactors. They are cheap enough.
I used to have phosban but now im running carbon in my 150. Even in high flow I feel a bag does not utilize the carbon as efficiently as a reactor.

I feel if your doing your part with weekly water changes, skimming and routine maintanence on your tank... aswell as making sure your RO unit is working properly with 0 on TDS reading, and feeding accordingly then your levels should be pretty much undetectable as far as Nitrate & P04 therefore you should not need the Bio Pellets. On the other hand if your having issues(Well Water and TDS still having 6-13 with a complete change out of cartridges & membrane) then it's worth the shot.
P04 Reading are acceptable upto 0.05 ppm

Just My $.02

I have a 0 TDS reading on my RO/DI unit and my phosphates are undetectable on my test kit. Would it be worth it to run phosban or just run carbon?
