okay to add new/more sand?

Can I add new arragonite sand to/on top of existing LS? There's no fish or coral in tank only LR. Dont know whether layer of new sand will suffocate exisitng LS or whether it will meld together over time.

i did that. and i had problems later on. that was because a lack of a good sand sifting crew...
