Hi Folks,

I'm curious what kind of times are you guys getting in making RO/DI filtered water? I know some of us are filtering in a big vat/bucket with a float switch, pretty much a set 'n forget setup. But being in an apartment I have do it in 5g buckets.

Chatted with Jim of The Filter Guys, and I told them I was making 5g in approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. Jim said that's pretty good time, normal production is usually 2.5 hours. But I wanted more... so Jim suggested I add a 2nd (75gpd for me) membrane to double production. Order and installed, and got a 5g bucket in about an hour! However my water pressure was 50psi which is below the recommended amount of 65psi. Was told at those pressures, I can potentially cause both my membranes to fail early. Today, I added a Actiontec 8800 booster pump giving me about 90psi, and I'm getting 5g in 40 minutes! Also bringing down the clean to waste water ratio to 1:1.5 or thereabouts. To me that's a fire hose compared to what I was getting before... granted total upgrade was about $200. It's $200 well spent in my opinion.

Curious what everyone else is doing?

Oh and my Jersey City tap TDS on the input is approximately 140-150TDS, read off dual inline meter and Liquatec PM-3000 handheld.

Cool, good to hear ya chime in Rick. I'm using a faucet adapter, so put a thermometer under the water and try to get it to 75*F, as I was told 77* is optimal.

Doing that can cause your membrane to expire sooner... WHY? Because more contaniments are stored in the hot water heater. Take a reading in cold water, then do the same for your hot. What were your readings?

Glad to hear this worked in your favor widdy! now i can borrow some from you when I run out!!

Good point, Noel. Let me take a TDS reading of both my hot and cold water.

Any time bro! But JC is a bit of a trek for water. :lol2:
