hi, i am new to the forum. looking good, props the the admins and mods and the rest! i mean dis forum looks AWESOME!

i am seriously interested in setting up a cylinder tank. not a quarter reef, but possibly a half cylinder is ok.

only thing is i don't have to have to spend like more than 1K on the basics (tank, stand, canopy).

does anyone know of any cylinder (or half cylinder) that is bigger than the 9gal "BioUbe" that won't cost a fortune? i am a minimalist that shouldn't even be reefing  lol, but just want a tank lit up with blue lights, a few pieces of purple rock, and some easy fish like yel-tail damsels and some easy coral like green star or xenia blowing around in the "current".... 'thas all. :scratchch

peace,
neil

Welcome to Manhattanreefs!
What you are referring to is FOWLR - fish only with live rock. Rather than looking at full or half cylinder tanks, you should consider the quarter cylinder. The reason for this is that cylinders and half cylinders will distort the fish considerably when viewed from the sides possibly leaving you with a headache. Also they take up considerable amount of space considering the total gallons. The quarter cylinder is known as corner bowfront.

If you are operating a fish only tank the costs are considerably lower. We have the resident FOWLR expert in the house. His username is marrone. Send him a PM. He will be of great help to you.

LOL wassup???

pas a cold one over hear :smokin:

yeah if i'm gonna deal with the stinky smelly saltwater i might as well justify it with some soft and LPS.

i didn't think about the DISTORTION of the fish from half or full cylinder. since ?m prone to migraine headaches, maybe i will pass on a Cylinder being my main tank.

i used to have a bunch of reef setups, including a 75 gal sps tank and a 90 gal lps tank, but i gave it all away to my bro in VA when i was just overwhelmed. i'm talking like 200 lbs premium rock, MH+flour hoods, the whole works.

now i have nothing :( starting from scratch. gonna do it minimalistic that way i don't go awol on the hobby, no? :banghead:

totally, man. anyone here have a BOW front set up with pics? i can't believe how hard it is to check prices on TANK nowadays online with petland, petco, etc.

whats the cheapest (price, not service) place to get a standard tank in queens? im checking craigslist periodically but nothing came up yet.

im not going with an overflow this time. :irked: i might just do a nano or something.
