So, I'm really interested in getting a Star for my tank, but have always heard mixed info as to the success rate of keeping one. Of course I'd love one of them Blue Linkias, or Orange or Red. But how hardy are they? And how predatory, if a tall? :thanks:

the blue linkias have a horrible survival rate. there is one that does better than the multiflora linkia. the red and orange linkias don't do much better than the blue ones. the linkias all feed on microbes / algae film that grows on live rock. so need to make sure your rock is well seasoned and you have enough to support one. I read 75 lbs/small linkia.

the serpent stars and brittle stars are great for reef tanks. they will find food on the bottom of the tank. just stay away from the green serpents, they get huge and will eat fish.

i have a red linkia....many people doubted me and said itll never live...but its been doing great in my tank...had it for over 6 months.....

star fish can live a long time with no food.

a year + is the point when you can safely say your linkia starfish is doing well in your tank.
