Tim came by and as always did a whole lot of work for a very reasonable price.

Part of what he did was set up my new (used) calcium reactor. My question- How do I remove everything off of the CO2 tank to get it refilled? Also, where in Manhattan can I take it to get it filled? I have no idea what part to disconnect off of the tank. Just now I noticed that the CO2 tank is marking at empty.

Oh, we also set up the ReefKeeper, chiller and PH monitor/controller for the Calcium reactor...

You should have a regulator valve attached to the Co2 cylinder. Turn the regulator valve clockwise to turn off the pressure, then on the Co2 cylinder itself, also turn clockwise to turn off the valve. Then disconnect the Co2 hose from the regulator, and finally, unscrew the regulator off the Co2 cylinder.

You will need to tweak it back to specs when you reassemble. Make sure that the place that refills your tank gives you a washer that goes inbetween the regulator and the Co2 cylinder valve.

One thing ,make sure you buy yourself a rool of Teflon(plumbers tape) when connecting back your CO2 tank ,i would put a the felton around the the union part ,just to have a goos seal when closing.Just in case i would chaeck for CO2 leak by the connection ,Just to be on the safe side ,you dont want CO2 leaking out

Update: I called McKinney, they charge $18 for a 15LB cylinder. The REAL nice thing is that they will exchange it for you so that you do not have to wait to get it back. (They dont refill them in their 52nd St location)

Here I was going to buy a second cylinder to avoid downtime!!!

Also, I bought a 10 pack of teflon tape at Home Depot about 2 years ago when they had them for cheap. I have only gone through 4 rolls, figure I have another 5 years supply left. ;-)

Most places will exchange them since they do not refill on site but there are a number of hobbiest that won't do this cause they do not want a dirty scuffed up steel tank in exchange for their aluminum tank that they just payed $99 for.

Also, it's not a bad idea to have a spare filled tank. This way you can fill your empty tank at your leisure without any downtime. You need to fill the tank when the pressure drops below 400 psi or so. There's still Co2 in the cylinder, but the working pressure starts to fluctuate.

I exchanged my 5LB tank. It cost me $12 and the thank they gave me was in better condition than the one I gave them on trade in. ;-)

The pressure gauge reads a little higher than 50 PSI, is this right?

Overall I am pretty pleased.

Most likely, your reading the guage as kg/cm. Read the inner portion which is psi.
If your getting about 50 kg/cm, then that's about 700 to 725 psi which is not exactly full.
When I have my tank filled, it's close to 1000 psi.
