I just wanted to know how much water evaporates from people's tanks. For My 220, I seem to be topping off at least 29 gallons (that is the size of the tank I'm using as the reservoir for the top off system) per week. There is around 340 gallons of water total in the system, excluding rocks.

Your evaporation level depends on the warmth or coolness of the room your tank is setup in, my evaporation levels range from 5 - 15 gallons a week.

It also depends on the type of cooling you use, e.g. fans forcing evaporation or refrigeration. In my current 100G i'm only topping off 7G's a week, during summer months this almost doubles.

29 gallons of top off, even in a 220 system seems excessive.
How strong is your return pump? Perhaps you could dial it back a bit so that the water isn't rushing through your sump so quickly? It would definitely help slow the evaporation somewhat and will not affect your DT as the powerheads in there should be providing enough flow for the corals.

29 doesn't seem that bad, There are other variables involved besides the room temp and Outside seasons. The area that is opened to the air will oncrease evaporation, The more filter socks or drains coming out of the tank causing water to splash will speed up the evaporating water. In my 65 I do roughly 7 gallons a week during the summer, In the winter I have been doing almost double that. Also if you have a glass top it will slow it down as well.

I top off a gallon a day, so 7 gal a week on my 72 gal (total 82 gal). I think that is a lot of water evaporation, but probably do to the higher temperature I keep it at and the open top with high water flow.

on my 90 with a 20 fuge and a 20 sump i lose 2 gallons in the summer a day and 1 gallon a day in the winter.i think 29 may be a excessive amount.4 gallons a day.sure you dont have a leak anywhere?
