My biggest fear in the tank is the powerhead failing. I spent way too much money and time on redundancy to make sure that does not happen. The powerhead being able to be knocked off is not something I can live with. Remains to be seen as far as I am concerned.

One thing i do ,so g-d forbid the PH should fall ,is Tie the cord to something so if it does fall ,it will only swing and not hit and glass ,JMO
Im not worried about the powerheads falling in the tank dude. Besides the magnets that its mounted on is a monster. what I worry about is the powerhead not turning water. With the vortech the turbine is in the tank, which is good. But the motor is outside. I cant comment on the magnet that holds the to pieces together. I worry that the motor side could get knocked by a cat, kid or a bird like sonny. Cause they could! If Im not in the house for a while and the pumps in the tank are not moving, Im not a happy man. My tank inhabitannts will not be happy either. That is my only concern on the vortechs. The idea is great! The features are great. But it will take quite a bit of convincing b4 I give up the Tunze for a Vortech.
Each comes with advantages and disadvantages. I like being able to swing the flow around. I like the fact that I can sweep accross the tank with the Tunze.
I want to see what are the long term effects of the magnetic clutch. Mind you I said long term so no one can really comment on it. Eventually all clutches slip. what effects will it have on the acryllic and glass?
Dont be talking to me about electrical or flow or price. They are the same in that respect. In termas of being able to hook up 10 pumps - Im totally stoked at the thought of that but what kind of tank will I need to have 10 vortechs. If I am going to mount 8 tunzes or 10 vortechs, I would rather go with a closed loop with a massive pump. Electrical usage will not be a concern once you go with a tank of that size.
As far as being able to control the pumps between 30% and 100% that is a cool feature. The Tunze does 50~100% out of the box.
I can totally understand that people are super excited but several peeps dont even need apply cause their tanks are way to small for the vortech.
Im not knocking the thing, Im just saying wait and see b4 you speculate and get all excited. For now Im stiking to the Tunze.
Jim, I would take you up on that offer but I dont see myself getting this thing in the forseeable future. But I will keep my eye out on RC for the first dude to drop it. You know there is always that dipstick that nmanages to do so.
