pump size for sump

I nedd some help with my pump for my sump. I am a mag 12 runnig for my 120g and 29 gallon sump.but it seems a little to strong .water flow through my sump is like a title wave. and that with me having a by pass on the discharge of the pump.also i have to keep level in sump preaty high or else i get mircro bubbles in the tank.need some help or suggestions.

you can put a threaded nipple and and ellbow facing down from the intake of your pump ,this will allow you to have more water level in your sump...

Go for a red dragon pump ,,great pump ,low watts .almost no maintaining

Get a pump that matches how much flow you want thru the sump. If you switch to a mag 5 or 7 you will save $40-50 (@ $0.21 KWH) in a year. So sell that pump and get a smaller cheaper one. BTW, eheims are very good pumps.

Mike, I'd kick that down to a mag 9.5. the decrease of volume will allow you a better handle on your levels - it will also allow the microbubble time to surface and pop before getting to the retrun.

Eheim are equally good.

this is a question for my knowledge. how do u have ur mag hooked up to ur tank.. with pvc or a hose... thanks

pvc and i already have the elbow pieace with a valve on the return side of the pump.I have both a mag 7 and mag9 which should i put in and does any one want a mag 12
