I used some zipties to hold some rocks together to give my tank a natural look a few year ago. A nice over hang it was. Today i went in the tank to fix a fallen frag and bang! a rockslide. With two hands full, i'm glad no one saw me...

Lucky there was no damage to tank,,i had rock slide years back thought i was safe till i woke up next morning with about 3 inches of water left in a 55 gal...
I didnt see the little crack the slide caused right above the silicone...

also... i would use more than 1 zip tie. zip ties aren't necessarily bad, you just need more to support more weight
Zipties are bad for rockwork and i'll go one step further, they are no good in saltwater environment. Even if you use 10 zipties they will eventually fail. I'll say they'll last about 4-5 years. At this time an average reefer will have a few large coral colonies and lots of coral frags. Weight have nothing to do with it. They're just no good for saltwater period...
