Did some maintenance, shut pumps off. Tried catching fish in overflow too and gave up, 2nd time frigid thing found its way in

Anyway, turned pump back on and now the tank is a smidge from overflowing had to shut main pump to prevent my tank and me from being on curb tonight

What's the deal with the pump. It's on, i hear but the water isn't recirculating i guess. Either way i appreciate some quick help

No water is coming out of the return pump? Likely the impeller broke (that's why I hate to shut them off...)

Or something could be stuck in the drain....can you run something through there to check?

To get through the night, just keep the circulation going in your DT and if you have a small extra pump, drop it in the sump to circulate that water too.
If your heater is in the sump, you may want to move it to the DT for the night..or add an extra if you have it so they both have heat

Could be some air trapped in the line. Try to see if you can get water to back flow through the pump. Should see some air bubbles then you should be okay. what type of overflow do you have? is water level in aquarium not going down or your sump?

When i turn pump on the sump level is very low, tank on verge of overflowing

Pump isn't old at all, less than 8 months. Eheim 1262. I have extra heaters I'll drop in dt and leave power heads running as well Not sure what issue is, or what could be stuck in drain. (standard durso)

Run something through drain, not following that.?

IS the pump pumping water from the sump back up to the tank and if you don't turn the pump off - the tank will overflow?
Just trying to determine which direction of flow is your issue.

Regarding my comment:
Could the fish have gone down the drain and is blocking it?
A snail in there..some sort of blockage?
I have a long brush on a fairly flexible wire that I can jam into the drain (like a snake) to see if anything is stuck in there.

It has to be drain the pump is still shooting out water

I took the elbow off of drain pipe and water rushes into the sump, put it back on and the tank is borderline overflowing still

ahhh..can you just leave the elbow off for now?

Does your durso have a hole drilled in it..is something blocking the hole?

I assumed thats what you meant wanted to make sure
Yes, water is getting from sump to tank but not drain to sump if that makes sense
Im going to see what i can find to snake drain. And no the wrasse is sittingnin overflow still hanging out

I had something like that happen to me about a month ago, I couldn't figure it out. Then my son took a look and found a snail stuck somewhere along the drain pipe. it was restricting the water going back to the sump.

Like Kathy mentioned about a airhole in the elbow. I see this happen when saltcreep clogs up my durso setup. I just take the elbow off and rinse under warm water, dry and pop it back on.

you don't have a pump problem if the tank is almost over flowing. something with your drains. i think if the air tube is blocked it will go into a syfon.

Whew....

The small air tube was pretty much logged I guess from salt rinsed under hot water and shoved toothpick through and everything working properly

Thank you very much for the help and suggestions!

Glad you figured it out. Sometimes too it takes a minute for the drain to go full force. So the tank basically fills up above the running line then levels out. Obviously not your issue here but for anyone else.
