LI reefers have some explaning to do. :biglaugh: i just don't understand how careless people can be. letting loose exotic fish into our local waters.

the article states they don't know what the lionfish are competing w/ and eating. can't they dissect one of these thing and find out? duh!

they are eating what lionfish always eat in the wild - goldfish, silversides, and pom-pom crabs

I bet the atlantic's goldfish population has been decimated by these lions.. I would be surprised if they are able to find any at all!

my friend goes collecting all the time. the fish drift up here on the gulf stream during the warm months, and then die during the cold months. thats y it is legal to catch them, cuz they r gonna die anyway.

I expected as much. Since you won't or can't read the article, here's an excerpt:

"Scientists were stunned in 2001 with the discovery of evidence that the lionfish, whatever their origin, were spawning in the Atlantic. That discovery came when Mr. Gardner, then a graduate student on a field trip, found a tiny lionfish clinging to a dock piling in the Great South Bay by Fire Island."
