Typhoon III RO/DI Help

I have a Typhoon III RO/DI water filter (100 GPD). It runs at about 40 PSI without a booster pump. Needless to say.... at that PSI it takes days to get a couple of gallons of water (if that). I purchased an Aquatec 8800 booster pump and connected it to my system. There has not been any additional flow of water although the PSI goes through the roof.

What I can't understand is it seems so simple to hook up the booster pump. Why am I not having increased flow? The pump runs very unstable until I open the drain and then it stabilizes.

Has anyone experienced this? Any tips? Is it possible that the filters are clogged? which would mean that I went through two sets of filters in a few months while barely getting a couple of gallons of water through them in several days.

I am baffled . I appreciate any help!

check the flush valve should be at 90 degree position

Who did you get the booster pump from? I have the same one (almost three yrs old though), and the first one I received had very inconsistent, inconclusive, erratic performance problems too. I spoke to the vendor and they replaced it and all has been fine since.

Thanks guys. I disconnected the feed and the pump seemed to be working fine. It seems something is restricting the flow of water through the filter. This guy never worked. Unless I am doing somethingrong, I think I got a faulty unit. Let me know if anyone else has any ideas. Looks like I am going to be missing a few water changes.

The most common problem is plogged (clogged) prefilters.

The membrane was just faulty. It was not letting water through. Sorry, no techninal reasons why.

Apparently 1/1000 membranes are faulty and I happened to get one. Another cause is not leaving the drain open while running the feed.

Over time membranes load up with scale (mineral deposits) and clog.

The whole purpose of the "waste water" is to continually flush the membrane during use.

Sometimes on a certain auction site you'll see venders advertising special "auto-flush" membranes. No kidding. All RO membranes are auto-flush.

That's funny. My membrane was brand new though. That's why it took so long to diagnose the problem. I already am getting aTDS reading of 26 or so with the water coming out of the system. I guess filters are not going to last long with city (new york city) water.

your getting a 26 TDS? is that after the first four gallon or so?

fyi, make suer to check the filter after the pump pretty often.
I find that one gets the brunt of the filtering. I had one get so
clogged once that the booster pump burned out from the back pressure!

Sorry - what problem is that? Low permeate production? Waste to permeate ratio out of whack?

On a bit of a different note - I can provide some better input to help troubleshoot problems - a good place to start - report the following:
pressure
TDS at the tap
TDS of the permeate
TDS of the DI output
GPD capacity of the membrane

How much pressure do you have?
Do you have more than one membrane? If yes, plumbed in series or parallel?
What do you know about your flow restrictors?
Do you know if your prefilters are clogged?

What problem were you trying to solve by replacing your membrane originally?

pressure - Pressure 75 PSI (I manually set it by using the booster pump and restricting the feed a bit)
TDS at the tap - 38 ppm
TDS of the permeate - Heh?:scratchch
TDS of the DI output - 26 ppm
GPD capacity of the membrane - 75 GPD
