I'm not trying to start something here, but maybe I missed something
why is when someone posts something for sale
everyone expects the seller to deliver the item?

I see livestock, and dry goods for sale here that are way below what anyone would pay at a LFS or online and almost always there is a reply asking if the seller could deliver.

I had a couple of frags for sale and it would cost me more to deliver them that what I'm asking for them
am I missing something????

It's not just you, I get low ball offers ALONG with the person telling me where I should deliver to. The craziest one I've gotten was 30 mins after a sale someone asked me to drop my price $30 and deliver it way out of my way, when I don't even drive.

I just laugh and pay them no mind, it makes no sense.

I am offering a brand new reflector that sells for 115.00 ( what I paid and I drove to Tony's to pick it up) for 1/2 price and I get the feeling it's expected that I should deliver it.

is it a given that when you start a "for sale' post is it assumed that you will deliver unless specified?

I dont usually sell stuff but I figured I would offer some stuff I had laying around, price wise I thought I was very fair hoping to help members out.
I've bought stuff in the past from memebers and always made it my business to pick the stuff, it was nice to meet members and see their tanks

please if I'm off base some one say so
in future I'll price accordingly

Sometimes you may mis understand buyer. For example i could ask if you ever come to westchester? That doesnt mean im asking you to bring it to me, put simply inquarying if there is a possibility you might work near by or something.

Unless he specifically ask you to bring it to this address, and at this time - thats just silly

I always ask if someone can deliver, but dont expect it. I mean, I ask simply because if I am on the way to someones work then its just easier for me. I hear you though, I never expect something delivered only hope!

I think its just wishful thinking maybe? I mean, if its in someones path fine, but if not that is a huge pain for the seller!

I had a guy deliver and charge me ten bucks for delivery which I thought was fair!

Frank your 100% correct its the new thing it seems. I will sell something type in "Pick-up only" and still get 95% of the people ask me will I deliver it lol

I think some members ask if the seller can deliver the item as they mayn't have a car or be able to get the item back home. Others just try and take advantage of the seller.

I think you need to post something in the thread that the item needs to be picked up or if you want it deliver you'll need to paid extra for it.

I should have added I don't mind delivering, as Cooper said, if it's some place I'm gonna be regardless and the buyer is PATIENT. I don't mind bringing stuff to the city, but don't ask me to drop my price.

Some people are just ignorant and very much in the state of mind that they're the "center of the universe". Those people, I don't deal with just to avoid any problems.

House/work delivery is a bit much. I usually ask if they live somewhere close to a train stop/some where easy for me to find. If not, then I'll just google directions to their house.

Usually, if I google that (from the location in their sig), if I see that they are farther than I'm willing to drive for the item, or would take too long/too much in tolls then I don't even bother asking. Usually in sale posts people will let you know how pick up/delivery to the city is possible.

It would be pretty arrogant to assume someone would want to give to home delivery. Kind of crazy...actually.
Especially without mention of payment for that service (not to mention lowballing).

I began putting delivery to city in my for sale posts only because I saw everyone else doing it. I figured that if I couldn't make the product more attainable then folks would be less likely to buy it. I live in Jersey. So, my rule is usually, I'll deliver it to any Path train stop, but that's about it.

I got the impression that it's implied that delivery is expected.
I got many replies asking if "when do you come to the city"
"do u get to the island"

once I reply that I'm not going to be in the city I never get an answer after that.
That gives me the impression that the sale is solely based on me delivering.

maybe if I got a response similar to this this thread wouldnt be active?

"hello interested, I don't have a car and I see you live way outside the city,
so public transportation isn't feasible do u work or come to the city?
I can compensate you for gas if needed?"

I had a frag up for sale too, 20.00 I got an inquiry if I can deliver to Long island
I got the impression from the PM that the potential buyer was insulted that I wasn't willing to make a 4 hour round trip to long island to deliver the 20.00 frag

I cant tell you some of the Pm's I got I do realize I live way north of the city but....

Yes that is ridiculous but like I posted before, some members like to take advantage of the seller. Which is the reason that some people don't like to sell things, as they don;t need the headaches.
