Limited Edition "The Incredible Hulk" Aptasia

Please read beyond the title before dismissing this as another thread on how to kill aptasia...

I have tried everything from here to under the sun on how to get rid of these buggers BUT nothing seems to work. And yes I googled :tongue1: and it is awesome :smoker: From kalkwasser, plain old alkalinity, joe's juice, concentrated lemon juice, fresh lemon juice, boiling water, physical removal to natural predation. Not to mention how stressed out my fish got with me constantly sticking my hands in the tank during my murderous rampage...Never knew I found so much joy sticking a living organism with a syringe and killing them :shhh: Love ya Dave

After weeks of battling now with my mutated, immortal aptasias I raise the white flag and gave them all names :irked: If ya can't beat 'em join 'em...kinda like how I got into this hobby :iamwithst

So I thought it would be fun or somewhat entertaining for those who would like to kill A minute of their day to share their stories from the trenches or collectively come up with an original method on how to get rid of them for good!! :birthday:

Key words: ORIGINAL and FOR FUN :givebeer:

Well...since it seems you have used just about every method of killing them known to (wo)man..you may as well start naming them..lol :)

Seriously, my best success has come by using Kalk. Since I shut off my Vortech when I do a water change, that is when I'd go after any that I did have. I think the secret is to not having flow going while trying to kill them..for about a good solid 15 - 30 minutes.
After I shut down my main pump and then the Vortech, I hit them with the kalk syringe and let them sit for awhile. You just need to squeeze it on their mouth so they draw it inside. (I read somewhere a long while back that they have no choice but it 'eat' the kalk when you put it by their mouth, so they will absorb it and die.) Then I use my turkey baster to suck out any large globs of kalk that have missed or dripped out of the aiptasia (so my alk & ph don't rise too much, and so it doesn't blow onto corals that it would damage ) then I refill with new water and poof, they don't come back.

I think it's the part about not letting them sit with the kalk in/on them for long enough that causes them to reappear for some folks.

In the short time i'v been a member of M.F.i'v seen very experienced reefers with aptasia living side by side with their corals they probably gave up the fight.I hope that make you feel better .Every other day there is someone with this problem I say dump it or put the rocks in a bucket filled with water and cover it. Pop a small hole in the cover to let some light through. The anemones might come off on their own because they can't get enough light this may take a week or more.I found this out by accident don't stuff the buckets with rocks. This is not the only way this is just my way good luck.

This thread was designed for pure entertainment and fun. However, I appreciate the helpful advice BUT apparently there was someone who did not read what I wrote carefully. I created this thread out of jest and hoping it would give us all an opportunity to share some funny stories dealing with the headaches of reefing. Please stop being so uptight and live a little. Sheesh!!

**Btw, Makoy I am following in your footsteps :tongue1: **

Last night I did a water change and attacked my bubble algae with a sharp metal tool and a turkey baster. I must have gotten 50 of them and I was pretty good about not bursting them. I also aiptasia-x'd 3 aiptasia that I did not notice on Monday when I x'd 2 others. After the x'ing and the bubble removal I did my water change, wiped the outside of my tank and made everything pretty.

Shortly before lights out I noticed another aiptasia in a different part of the tank. Argghhh!

I'm not finding aiptasia funny today!

i have a story of how resilient these suckers can be. i named him rudy. i've tried many methods like hot water injections, aiptasia-x, glue, putty, on rudy.
he would go away for a while but after any where from 2 days to 2 months, he always return and i know it's him not his siblings or friends. (perhaps it could be his clone). he would come back on the exact same spot near the middle of my zoa colony.
i became obsessed with murderous rage that one day i took the whole rock, rudy, zoa's and all out and submerged it under a bucket full of freshwater. surely that should kill every thing. observations made: prized zoa takes a long time to multiply if at all, LE zoa melts away before the paypal bill comes, s.o.b.'s that you could care less takes awhile to die.
i was sure that after a day and a half under freshwater, things would fall off and leave a nice clean rock. but no, the zoa were all close up but still there. so i said if the zoa's still there, rudy might still be there. back it goes in the fresh water. this time i waited a few days til the week end. ahhhh....by this time most of the zoa's had turn to mush. i toothbrushed the whole rock off and got a nice shiney new dead rock. so in the fuge section of the sump it goes. i was quite content that the arch nemesis is now gone from my precious reef.
years gone by(ok it was two weeks) and then it was time to trim the chaeto in the fuge which by this time resembled the reef version of the amazon. as i was plucking away i caught a glimse of ......huhhhh... it can't be!!!!
ther he was, in the exact same spot on the rock, rudy brought tear to my eyes once again. i adopted the MF. he is now part of my family.

the end.

hope y'all enjoyed that story, it's 4:30 in the morning. i shall bid you all a good night and am going to tuck in that MF'ing rudy!!!!!
