Hello Everybody,

I hope everybody is faring well with this heat. My story is similar to Kris'. Somehow in one night I have lost the following... Literally overnight because everybody was with me before going to sleep. I just did a 20 gallon WC.

-4 Pink Anthias
-Clown Fairy Wrasse
-All of my Frogspawn colonies

My coris wrasse is MIA but I hope he's just sleeping.

I had my A/C on to battle my humidity the entire night and my tank temp didn't fluctuate much as I kept checking water temp. Moments like these make me rethink this hobby.

Temp was 75-76 like I said I had AC on. I'm just hoping this rain we just got will cool NY the rest of the week. Needless to say I am tempted to quit lol.

I haven't found any other fish bodies... Partially because o got a good CUC...

My corals aren't lookin to hot but at this point I have to wait and see what it will be like in the coming weeks.

Tahl thank you so much for the offer. I may take you up on that once my tank is stablized.

At your stated temperature, this should have not been a factor. Maybe look for some other reason.
Fish can handle probably up to 83 degrees before they start to stress due to O2.

+1 yea its deff another reason, my tank can get to the 83s and i haven't lost anything (not saying to not worry about temp, but its just that thats the highest it should get.76 is pretty cold 77-78 is perfect) hows ur flow? low oxygen or bad parameters?

Heater was in tact. I got vortechs on the tank ugh.

Pisses me off. Everything was doing great. I think my lights stressed out the fish and corals. They aren't working properly for whatever reason... Yesterday they weren't. After that it was probably a chain reaction.

Right now I'm at a loss for words. The tank was thriving and bam.... I don't need a chiller I just keep the AC on in my house lol. Not worth it to get one for me.

Ted, very sorry to hear about your losses.

+1 to Warren's comments.

I've seen tanks reach 84 even 85 without any losses. Believe me, that's NOT the temperature I'm advocating, but it can happen without losses. Your stated temperature should not have been a contributing factor to your losses, at all.

Reefs in nature can go through storms with such heavy cloud cover that sunlight is blocked completely for as much as a week. I have even turned my lights off 100% for three consecutive days in the past to combat some algae issues. Also done with no complications whatsoever. So I don't think your minor lighting problems caused your losses.

I've read this thread and don't see any mention of your tank parameters. Could you have had an ammonia spike for some reason? Some other chemical introduced to your system, maybe unknowingly? Anyone do any cleaning around your tank, in the same room? Possibly spraying or wiping a commercial cleaner on your tank, stand or near your skimmer?

I obviously have no idea what caused your losses, I'm just taking some shots in the dark here.

I hope you find the cause, correct it, and come back stronger.

Good luck,
Russ

Man nothing is sprayed near the tank I'm dupe careful of that. I found one anthias dead last night and had no issue. My phosphates nitrates nitrite ammonia were all in check when everybody was alive and happy fish wise.

I am sure when the first fish died it mustve caused a chain reaction but it's crazy that all 4 anthias died in one shot I only found the body to one....

Monetary value wise I probably lost about 400 bucks worth of stuff. I hate how I can't figure this out. I just change out my chemipure and purigen before I left for work.

I am terrified to go home and look at the tank I swear if I lose my fish that are 2 years old I'm gonna flip.
