Hello,

I inherited this tank from a family acquaintance. It has this snail or slug in it which I can't seem to identify. The shell is hard like glass.

I've caught it sucking onto these two sea anemones that I bought two weeks ago and one has since died. Please help! I've separated the snail from the general population for now.

Thanks,

- H

A little info about your cowrie...yes they will eat soft corals, most especially anemones :( It will only get worse as it gets older.
You might want to re-home him to someone with a strictly SPS tank as they are a beautiful and interesting species.

I realize you inherited the cowie with the tank, but this is a another one of those good reasons for doing some research before one buys critters they are not familiar with! :)

They are definitely cowries. Regardless, I would stay away from anemones until you get some more experience with the tank. Although they ate commonly sold, they are notoriously difficult to keep. Light and water requirements are challenging.
