Does anyone have any ideas as to what the black looking stuff is on this rock? I felt it and it seems to have the same feel as rubber. I don't think it is a sponge but not sure. Thanks in advance for the help.

Looks like a sponge. It actually looks like you have a lot of other sponge growth too. Pretty cool IMO

Actually it is probably a chicken liver sponge. Will try and provide a pic and more info later this evening. I have a huge one that is light purple.
