I've been dipping my zoas tonight, after i saw what looked like eating zoas nudis. I'm using reef dip from seachem.i just wrapped up and decided to look at what was at the bottom of the bucket and i see these little guys swimming. the dip doesn't seem to affect them but i haven't got a clue what they are.

also a pic of what i though were the eating zoas nudis is it or not?

as always thank you in advance for your input

I don't think those are Nudis. They kinda look like Amphipods to me. Or some other shrimpy-like thing. I would have thought that the dip would have killed them though. I have the same little things in my frag tank and they seem to be irritating my fire and ice's.

I agree with howze on the first pic. If you do happen to have the nudis, the flat worm exit method really does seem to work. I had an infection in a tank sepoerate from my main happen, and it got pretty bad in there. I dipped the zoas at intervals of every 2 days, etc. Eventually I just moved them to a 10 gal, and dosed it with 4x the normal dose of flatworm exit, and the zoas look great, and no visible nudis.

It is important that:
1. You DO NOT do this in the main, at that dose you WILL lose some of your inverts. In the 10g, it killed a ton of bristle worms. And if it can kill those, I bet it can kill a lot of other stuff.

2. You dose with Flatworm exit a couple times with time between applications (about 4-6 days) as F.E. does not kill eggs, it kills the hatched nudis. So you will kill off one group, and then more eggs will hatch, and the newly hatched need to be killed. I'm on my second run now in my dosing tank.

Hope this helps if you do indeed get nudis. They are really a giant pain in the ass.

The nudis look like slugs with soft spikes on their back. It's kinda hard to tell if they are or not. They look more like little amphipods to me. If they were nudis, I would think that all the polyps would be closed. Plus the nudis tuen the same color as the zoas they are eating.

all i ever did for zoa's was a temp adjusted freshwater dip with a drop of iodine, and swirl the zoa's around in this and maybe use a turkey blaster to knock anything off, this has kept me nudi free for years and ive hada few zoa's ;)

not looking to get rid of anything good, but i though those little critters were(eating nudis) the cause of the zoas not opening . i dipped all zoas in the tank so I'm hoping the dip brings them back to opening.in a big way I'm glad it's not the eating nudis .we were discussing the other night the possibility of dosing vita C , which I'm no longer contemplating it. but is there anything that you can suggest to help open them up again?
thanks for the conformation Kathy.

If the problem was amphipods, then just some time will help. As far as something to eat the amphipods, pretty much anything with a mouth big enough will eat them. I had the same problem with them irritating my zoas. I have some fish in the tank though and they haven't been a problem since.

I'm going to wait till weds and do the second dip just to make sure . then put them back in the main tank ,hoping that they open again . I'll post other pictures of the colonies if they don't open so they can be evaluated.
