I want to draw back from this forum a bit and concentrate my full efforts on working with the USCRTF in its efforts. I am sorry if I am unable to anwer questions posted in a timely manner.

I will keep this forum informed about the progress being made in this thread.

Resolution 15-1: Form a Working Group on Enforcement and Utilize Task Force Expertise to Address the Illegal Use of Cyanide and Other Poisons in International Trade

Definitions of Working Group on the Web:

differs from a focus group because the participants of a working group are chosen with diversity aimed at forming an effective team, ie with a range of complementary skills and resources so that a task can be completed without recourse to others. Working groups cooperate with other working groups, but collaborate with each other within the working group.

That is an announcement that they have made the decision to FORM A WORKING GROUP. Guess what comes next? Many many months of them DEBATING the addition of every working group member. THEN what comes next, is an announcement they formed the group. THEN what comes afte that, is they debate it for another many many months, maybe even years. Guess how long that is all ready? We haven't even begun to talk about the period of implimentation. Given the political will on this issue, it's highly doubtfull the US Governement will ever get to the point so seem to think their at now. :roll:

The thing that sticks out most in my mind is a bigger, more inefficient, more costly and ineffective MAC type bureaucratic boondoggle.

PS. If I were just 50X more naive I might construe this as something that will give rise to genuine , professional field work, training and goodwill.
That it would make the fisherfolks role more significant and that it would make foreign fisheries departments more sincere and responsible.

With no current or previous involvement in the trade of marine ornamentals I am sure that the USCRTF will take all of naesco's comments to heart. ROFLMAO!

They are far more aloof and inaccessible then the folks at MAC.
By the way...whats wrong w/ MAC?
Why the need to supersize it?
If Mac were OK....and doing 1/10 of what hey claimed in their quarterly reports...how could the feds justify their incursion into the arena?
The USCRTF members are also devoid of working aquarium world knowledge save 2 or 3 of them...and even then, their world view is a lotta what they read.,,from underlings and from selected works.
Pure rubbish generated bythe CCIF for example can be cited as credible 5 years later...or the Ed Greenwash report for GMAD..
One member...a big one... wants to ban hookah air compressor diving forcing far more deaths to scuba....or forcing out the poorer collectors [ for their own protection :roll: ]and leaving the richer ones. This is actually this members primary take on the aquarium trade.
They get paid to read...and they read slowly what ever gets put into the published literature base...and the general body of gossip w/in their world.

The amatuer yet money grubbing eco pretenders will always be there to fill the niche left open by the trades 'dont bother me...I'm selling fish' type attitude.
The trade thinks locally...and doesn't act generally for the general good.
The eco-incs are the same way...their tribe or the hiway.
With all this self serving spirit...whos the most to blame?
The answer?
The ones who commit loan fraud for living full time and on salary and expense accounts and claim that they can fix the problems when they haven't a clue but what they read. The business folks act like snakes always act...like business folks.
The ngos regrettably do as well. Only they don't sell fish....they sell snake-oil, illusions, summaries from interviews, false blueprints, filled in templates and other peoples achievements as their own.
The trade could kick any ngos butt on any project it wanted if it could just evolve a co-operative strategy...for its own survival.
We have wealthy sectors who give far less then the middle-class reformers who have kept hope alive; Public aquriums, dry goods manufactureres and mega wholesalers and retailers reap what they don't sow as if it were sustainable windfall.
The trade could easily fix itself except for the quality of thinking among those most able.
