Fragging a balanophyllia

so i've had this decent piece of balano for a while now...survived a crash and all...i've been thinking about breaking it up though and putting some frags of it in my pico...my dumb question though is if the 'skeleton' will actually grow? i know the heads (whom love mysis) grow nicely and split...but will the actual skeleton get larger in size?

Yeah I think that the polyps comprise the only living tissue.
