  1. Lighting my 125

Id rather not go with halides because of the cost of running them and the high chance of needing to run a chiller with them. I have had good experiences with t5 in the past and I plan to stick with them, but thanks for the suggestion.
  2. Lighting my 125

I am trying to decide on the lighting for my new 125 gallon reef tank. Right now I am thinking of 6 36" t5 bulbs from a TEK retrofit set. If all of my SPS and clams were kept near the top and LPS was from the bottom down would this be enough light? I could go with a 8 bulb set, but would...
  3. Poll: Should I stick with a Reef or try a FW Planted tank?

good luck with the new, larger reef! Let us now how everything goes.
  4. Poll: Should I stick with a Reef or try a FW Planted tank?

If you are worried about the cost of the tank and stand, check out recycler.com . There are always good deals on that site. I bought a 125 gal for my plant tank from there and I got the tank, stand, a 200 dollar filter, 2 heaters, and some rock for only 300 dollars. You could maybe even find...
  5. Poll: Should I stick with a Reef or try a FW Planted tank?

If you are going to be doing a full blown planted tank with co2 injection and tons of plants, then there is going to be a lot of maintenance. You need to constantly monitor nitrate and phosphate levels. Then measure out how much nitrate or phosphate you need and add it to the tank. Some...
  6. Poll: Should I stick with a Reef or try a FW Planted tank?

Personally, I think reefs are a lot more interesting. I still love my 125 gal planted tank, but I find my small 37 gal reef far more fun.
  7. check for incompatibilities

I am waiting for my 37 gallon tank to cycle so I wrote up a list of desired inhabitants. Hopefully you guys can check for any incompatibilities. Also, here is a little description of my setup if it makes a difference: 37 gal tank, 2 MJ 1200's w/ hydor flos, Remora skimmer w/ MJ 1200, 40#...
  8. pH monitor question

I am pretty sure that you have to calibrate them yourself. It should have come with a solution with a marked ph that you use to calibrate the thing.
  9. additives and test kits

does rubble account for a lot of the weight? or do you get most of the rock that you pay for?
  10. additives and test kits

what do you guys think of this live rock? http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod ... pCatId=397 Have any of you ever used it? Seems like if mantis shrimp and bristleworms leave the rock, won't other stuff leave too? Should I buy this, or rock from the lfs? Sounds like this stuff is really...
  11. additives and test kits

Ok so does this sound good for when I only have live rock and clean up crew? Salifert- Ph, Kh Red Sea- Nitrate, nitrite, ammonia Are you sure no additives? I will be using salt water from the lfs which is RO
  12. additives and test kits

dont I need something for the invert cleaners? Iodine or something? Do I need to add any sort of trace elements? will test strips be sufficiently accurate for nitrate nitrite ammonia ? Should I bother getting phosphate tests?
  13. additives and test kits

Before I buy my live rock I wanted to have my test kits and additives on hand. I was planning on going w/ the saliferts, but was wandering which ones I should get. Also what are some good additives to have on hand? I know calcium, but that about it. What are good brands for these products...
  14. Whats a plenum?

I have been reading about deep sand beds and have heard about plenums multiple times. No one ever really expalins what the heck a plenum is though and I feel really confused. Do you guys think that a 3-3.5 inch deep sand bed with sugar sized sand would be enough for NNR? Would a yellow...
  15. Check my setup

so you think the gramma might attack the blenny if it entered it territory? would a bicolor psuedochromis be more or less agressive than the gramma?
