  2. Need help with my 250W DIY HQI setup please!!

150 rear, the mounting bracket was mangled so it could be hung from a ladder for temporary holding tank lighting.
  3. PC Ballast form Home Depot???

Any ballast, tar or elec, that is labelled as INSTANT START will work for you. HTH, Bill.
  4. RO/DI DIY plans

This is not a hard diy. Most if not all of the items to make an r/o unit can be found at any good home center like HD or Lowes. Just be careful to use all plastic fittings. The filters are about 50% cheaper there, they even have the R/O membrane cartridges, the only filter element I haven't...
  5. Need help with my 250W DIY HQI setup please!!

You should be able to get a deal on the sockets if you buy at least 12, these have to be purchased in lots of 25 from the German mfg, so half of Hellolights order should earn you a discount. The glass tube you need is made of borosilicate, same material as scientific grade Pyrex. An online...
  6. DIY HQI...Is there such a thing?

MH-DE "hqi" bulbs are available in 70, 150, 250, 400, and 1000w for the aquarium trade. But, the 400w and 1000w are very hard to find. My guess is that if you needed a few, that Premium Aquatics could hook you up, you just have to ask, that's how I've gotten some oddball items from them in the...
  7. Tapping plastic

The HD in my area don't carry NPT taps. Ace Hdwr does. Harbor Freight has the best deal though, online. HTH, Bill.
  8. DIY MH question

HD and Lowes carry ceramic mogul sockets. Bill.
  9. Ballast for 150W Iwasaki?

If I'm not mistaken this bulb can be run on a MV ballast. I have seen Regent brand street light style lamps for sale at home centers and farm/fleet for about $50. HTH, Bill.
  10. HQI ballast question

Scott, Um, I talking only about DE/HQI bulbs here, I guess I just assummed he was going to convert his pendants to DE when he mentioned the HQI ballast. Shame on me for assumming someone would be taking a step toward the future of MH lighting, seems the Europeans are years ahead of us on...
  11. DIY stand not flat on top...

Why does the center need to be open? Overflow? Where, what size opening? Everything I've ever heard about acrylic tanks, even smaller sizes (55g), need to have the entire span of the bottom supported with a flat surface, like plywood as the previous posted stated. HTH, Bill.
  12. HQI ballast question

Wiring from ballast to bulb is the same: hot, neg, ground. The sockets are definately different, even b/t the different wattages of DE (hqi), so you'll have to get the appropriate socket installed and have a tempered glass shield installed if you don't already have one, and you can't have a fan...
