  1. count down to demise of great barrier reef?

The coral reefs of the world have been bleaching and growing back for millions of years. They are going to continue to go through that cycle regardless of what we do. The fact is that we are really not concerned about the reefs, or any other enviromental situation for that matter. What we...
  2. Pump question...

Couple of thoughts. 1. If you're going to throttle the pump only do it on the outtake side, not on the intake side of the pump. 2. Micro bubbles are part of every new setup. I wouldn't do anything for a week or so. Same thing happened to me on my 125.
  3. damsels for cycling

You can catch the damsels but i agree it can become more of a pain. I just caught two in my tank. If I had to do it over again I would NOT add the damsels to the tank for cycling.
  4. Pics of my Tank

If you still have the problem then i suggest taking out the DSB. I'm sure some of you are about to jump down my throat!:)
  5. Hi guys.

Peej - let me know if you want to sell that light setup. I've got a chiller hooked up to mine and it's a 125 gal. if you elect to go buy a chiller then i strongly suggest Arctic Chiilers.
  6. Culligan

before i bought a RO/DI filter i used culligans from the local tom thumb....i tested it out after i mixed up salt and found no nitrates, nitrites, phos, or ammonia. Still, just buy an RO filter and put this topic to rest for yourself. you can get one for like $60 that produces 5-10 gal a day...
  7. RO/DI water tests out with high Ammonia

Made my 1st batch of RO/DI water last week, 35gal. It's a 5 stage 75gal per day unit. I mixed the salt on Tues and changed the water in my 125 reef on Sunday. However before doing this i tested the newly made saltwater and discovered zero everything except Ammonia. Ammonia was about .05-1...
  8. chiller/heat

I sit mine outside the stand right next to the tank. It keeps the temp constant at 78.5 AND I LIVE IN TEXAS!!!!!!!:) The chillers work like little window units. If there is not clear airflow then the efficiency is reduces big time
  9. cloudy water

get a canister filter with a micron filter. You'll be happy you did. The micron filter with take out the particles.
  10. Weight Problem - An Structural Engineers?

i'd do water, salt, sand. but that's just me. be sure to rinse the sand. what type of sand? what is your water source?
  11. Weight Problem - An Structural Engineers?

You will be fine. I had a 140 upstairs and I'm currently running a 120 on a pier and beam foundation and the house is over 35 years old.
  12. mollies

heck i just threw mine in there....they are pretty hardy. Have you every actually tried to kill one?
  13. Algae

if your using tap water then i'm with wannabe. You're much better off finding a water store or Kroger etc and filling 5 gal bottles for like .38 a gal until you get a RO filter. At least that water is RO, DI, and Ultra light filetered. Adding tap water, even using the dechlorine stuff is...
  14. Water change!

I do it just like seamaiden but 15 gal at a time. It's not hard once you get a system down.
  15. help skimmer went carzy after red slime reomver was added

but you might want to consider why you have the slime to begin with. Is it a new tank?
