  1. FRAUD ALERT...SEE LINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I defence of ebay, I have been dealing with people on ebay for about 4 years now, and this is the worst fraud I have ever seen. Most people on ebay are honest. It just takes a few bad apples to spoil the barrel.
  2. Ideal Cleanup crew

I have had good luck with mail-order turbo snails. If they are dry shipped, you don't have to go through the 2 - 4 hour aclimation process. You can just temperature aclimate them, and drop them in. In a small tank, I would get the smallest snails you can find. Nothing will crash a small tank...
  3. My fraternity is hooked to saltwater tanks

I spent a few years at OSU working on my engineering degree, If you don't mind me asking, which house has all of the tanks? I lived a couple of years at the SN house on 10th street. GO BEAVERS!

28....But sometimes I feel much older, sometimes much younger.
  5. WHAT ONE THING MAKES YOUR REEF AQUARIUM SUCCESSFUL?

If I had to pick one Item that I believe has made the most differnce in my system, It would have to be my Octopus 3K controller. It has taken the guess work out of when to dose Kalk, it is pretty good at holding the temperature in a +-.2 degree band, and gives me a heads up when something is...
  6. check out new plumbing pics

Nice looking set up. Flexable PVC tubing was a God-send for my 60 gallon set up. I see you used some too. Where did you get that see through check valve that is mounted above the chiller? I would like to get one of those. I can see what is killing your chiller flow, it looks like the intake...
  7. Thoughts on the future of Reefing

Recently, on both this board, and Reefcentral, there has been a lot of discussion about the ethics and future of our hobby. I think a lot of us see some kind of government intervention on the horizon. Let’s face it, it is just a matter of time till it happens. So what can we do? How do we...
  8. Its Monday morning, and I am already in hot water.

There is actualy only about 4 feet of elevation change between the pump and the outlet in the tank. However, there is a check valve on the return line that eats a lot of head. Both pumps are located in my stand, The Little giant pump has a 1/2" inlet attached to the sump with a 3/4" bulkhead...
  9. Its Monday morning, and I am already in hot water.

I unplugged the heater last night.
  10. Its Monday morning, and I am already in hot water.

Nope, the tank is not in direct sunlight. I will try the fan trick. Thanks.
  11. Its Monday morning, and I am already in hot water.

Mosey, I hadn't thought of that, sand in the pumps. The tank did have suspended sand in it for nearly 24 hours. After you cleaned out the pumps, did the temperature return to normal?
  12. Its Monday morning, and I am already in hot water.

In fact, I tried two other thermometer! One read 84 degrees, the other 86, and my octopus 3k read 87.6 I am in the process of getting my hands on a lab grade thermometer to recalibrate my octopus 3k.
  13. weekend update w/ dennis miller

Looks like you had a weekend very similar to mine, except I took down two aquariums and combined the LR and LS in to one system. I am still waiting for the sand to settle down, then I need to do some vacuming of the LR. Only after that will my poor fish get to move into their new home from the...
  14. Its Monday morning, and I am already in hot water.

Ok folks, I completed the move of all of my rock and sand into my new 60 gallon set up this weekend. The water has cleared up, but now I have an unusual problem. When I put the tank up, the water temperature (according to my Octopus 3000) was around 80 degrees. I was a little concerned when...
  15. new tank update+the stand

weufman, I was looking at your drawing, For holding the weight of the tank up, It looks great. However, you are in California. That means earthquake country. If I were you, I would sheet the two shorter sides with 1/2 plywood. This will give it some resistance to colapsing in the event of a...
