These are all great suggestions. Tonight i will offest the time that the MH lamp is on, and this weekend i will install some fans, everywhere... Thanks again for all of your help, glad this is not an uncommon issue to deal with in the MH realm. Greg
  2. Metal Halide lights heating my aquarium

Yes, i do have a canopy that i constructed out of wood. But, there is no glass or anything directly above the water. I have lots of little fans lying around here that i could use to cool it, i will try that right away. Unfortunately i don't have a sump. And i'm a little worried about this...
  3. Metal Halide lights heating my aquarium

Hi Everyone, I have a 29 gal reef tank that has been running since October. I recently added a 175w metal halide and it is causing the tank to heat up alot when its on (upwards of 85 deg or more). I run the AC in my apt, but that doesn't cool it enough. The MH bulb is about 6 to 6.5 inches...

  6. DIY Chillers? Does the small fridge chiller work?

Hi, I'm sure this topic has come up on many occasions. Here it is again: Has anyone had any experience with the dorm room fridge DIY chiller? (ie you put a large amount of vynl tubing or plastic tubing inside of a small refridgerator and pump water through it to chill a small aquarium) I...
  7. chillers and pumps?

I know, it makes no sense! That is what i told the customer help people. I'm going to investigate this further. 86 is too high. I would rather try to build a DIY chiller than use this thing if it waits until 86 deg. More later, Greg
  8. chillers and pumps?

Hi Len, I called the company i bought the Azoo chiller from, and their customer service contacted Azoo. Apparently it will not start chilling until the room temperature reaches 86 deg. I thought that was a little dissapointing, because i thought that 86 was way too high for corals. Or, is...
  9. chillers and pumps?

Thanks Len, for the help and the welcome! :D Excellent site you have here. The temp sensor for this chiller is internal to the chiller, and i cannot find a hook up to run it out to my tank. But i am also consulting the company that i bought it from, see what they have to say... This leads...
  10. chillers and pumps?

I'm just getting started in keeping a reef aquarium. I have a 29gal setup, which has been going since October. In anticipation of the summer, and lack of effective air conditioning in my apt, i have purchased a small/cheap Azoo chiller, model CH-100. I placed the chiller next to the tank...
