  1. Nitrates

Hi guys, My nitrates are rising in my 37 gallon reef - im at about 60 or 70 ppm (or maybe more!)...I have plenty of live rock, a prism protein skimmer, few fish. and use poly filter pads. I am curious as to what you would recommend to lower my nitrates and keep them low. I do frequent water...
  2. Struggling Fox Coral

Its hard to tell if its reacting but the shrimp is not floating away. I know it may just be the outer skeleton that is holding on to the shrimp but it may also be the mouth forming around it. Im going to keep an eye on it for a while to see the coral comsumes the shrimp.
  3. Struggling Fox Coral

OK Laura, I put a few small pieces of shrimp in about 3 spots where mouths are. Im not sure if it will eventually eat it but I hope so. Should I put a piece of shrimp in each mouth or will the food spread to all of the animals system? Thanks again.
  4. Struggling Fox Coral

Yes, that is the coral I have. I am going to try feeding it right now the way you explained. Thank you so much for the advice. Your help's apprecaited!
  5. Struggling Fox Coral

When you say that they will eat meaty foods, how do you go about getting 'meaty foods' into the actual coral? What kind of meaty foods?
  6. Struggling Fox Coral

You say they must be fed via the water column - can you please explain for me? Thanks.
  7. Struggling Fox Coral

Hey guys, I made the mistake of moving my Fox Coral after it had been acclimated. Because it didn't like it's change of location (too much light), I moved it back and now it has hardly opened for 2 weeks. My water tests are fine. I can still see the green but only by a tiny amount. Is dead...
  8. Success w/ Fox Coral

Hi guys, Anybody have any advice on keeping Fox Corals open? (Nemanzophyllia turbida) Mine was doing well for a long time at the bottom of the tank, but I moved it up and it didn't like the intense light. So I moved it back and it has barely opened for 2+ weeks. My water chemistry and levels...
  9. Spreading Mushrooms

Hi guys, I have a bunch of Red & Blue Striped Mushroom Corals and I want to spread them around my tank. How do I go about doing this? Is is possible to just move them by hand? Right now they are all sitting on a flat piece of something smooth and thin I can't identify. Any guesses on what it...
  10. Bubble Coral Question

Thanks for the advice. If I am going to target feed my bubble coral, what product/type food do you recommend? Thanks.
  11. Bubble Coral Question

Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody could offer some advice on bubble corals(Plerogyra sp.) and let me know if they will more likely expand their bubbles under more or less intense light as well as direct or indirect lighting. I have a 37 gal tank w/ a 175watt 10k metal halide. Should I place...
  12. Help! Bubble Coral

Hi guys, I hate to say this but I had a piece of live rock fall on top of my bubble coral sitting in the sand. The live rock damaged some of the skeleton by cracking a couple of the blade-like walls (the septa). Now, the bladders have stayed contracted for 2 days now and I dont see any...
  13. Filter for 37 Gallon Reef

One more thing! How important is a bio wheel? Okay, that's it I think. Thanks, Colin
  14. Filter for 37 Gallon Reef

Hi guys, I was wondering what filter recommendations you have for a 37 gal coral reef tank. I have heard you want to stay away from carbon filtration - I am only interested in a hang on style filter...any ideas? Also, I am running a Prizm protein skimmer and have about 35 pounds of live rock...
  15. MH Light Intensity Choice

Hi guys, My aquarium is a 37 gallon, 12" X 30" (I'm at work right now or I'd tell you the height), and I am buying a MH light. Im unsure what light is necessary. Will notice a difference between these bulbs (in terms or brightness, coral growth, etc)? My choices are: A 175W 4300K Bulb, 175...
