  1. lighting question~

Hello all! It's about time for me to change out the PC bulbs in my 12g NanoCube DX. I was just wondering if I should stick with two 50/50 bulbs or switch to a full blue actinic and a 50/50, or a full blue actinic and a 10K daylight bulb. Thoughts? Thanks! Cat.
  2. disaster!

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions! Over the last week, the tank has settled down some and everything seems to be more or less back to normal. I'm still going to wait a while before restocking but crabs and snails~
  3. disaster!

thanks for all your replies and advice! Yes, the sandbed got pretty stirred in the move (I had to move the tank up 3 floors without an elevator) and, even though I tried to get as much water out as possible before I moved it, there was still enough to make a slurry. Bah. I've done two full water...
  4. disaster!

Thanks for the response! I thought it might be the salinity at first but it always checks out at 1.023. I'm not home during the day so I don't know if it shifts much while I am away. I'll keep up with the water changes but I doubt I'll have anything in the tank worth saving by the time things...
  5. disaster!

Hey all, I moved my 12g nanocube last weekend and, ever since, things have been dying left right and center. I'm really frustrated as I have no idea why. The first casualty was my coral banded shrimp and a couple of hermit crabs (which surprised me since they've been through a lot and have...
  6. n00bish algae question

Brilliant! I will try the toothbrush first and if it doesn't work, I will get a crab! *crosses fingers*
  7. n00bish algae question

Hello all~ I've had the same, annoying patch of hair algae on one of the rocks in my tank and sofar nothing had taken to eating it. My levels are okay and the patch hasn't really grown, but I would rather my rock be covered with coraline than green hair-ness....or at least a sponge or something...
  8. NanoCube questions

Thanks for your replies! I will post a photo of what my zoos look like in a couple of weeks and maybe start a documentary about the incredible colour-changeing polyps! I will get one of the skimmers for sure and I thank you for your no-refugium-needed advice. I do frequent (weekly) water changes...
  9. a couple of questions....

I will try some remedies for removing the aptasia before I consider getting a peppermint shrimp. Oh, and it looks like the zoos eat. Their mouths are usually open in the morning. I will buy them some shrimp and see how it goes~ Thanks again!
  10. NanoCube questions

Hello~ I had originally posted this in the New Reefkeeper forum, but it probably should have gone here. *hehehehe* I'm such a n00b~ 8O Anyhow, I'm pretty new to the reef-keeping hobby in practice, although it has been a research obsession of mine for the last couple of years. I had bought and...
  11. a couple of questions....

Thanks for your help! I have taken all the bioballs out this morning. As for feeding the zoos, I have been target feeding them using Kent Marine micro-vert every 3 days or so. I will add some mysis if you think it will improve their look~
  12. a couple of questions....

Thanks for your advice! I'll take most of the bioballs out tomorrow. I don't know how well making the back part into a refugium will work for the tank but I'll repost the question in the right forum. I figured I would post my initial questions here 'cause I'm a n00b~ I will try to post some pics...
  13. a couple of questions....

Hello~ I'm pretty new to the reef-keeping hobby in practice, although it has been a research obsession of mine for the last couple of years. I had bought and set up an 12 gallon NanoCube (deluxe) a year and a half ago, but wound up taking everything apart and giving it away when I moved out of...
