  4. Dave's 125g tank build

Time for an update: I have added: another 5" hole in the wall 60g refugium Ozone Coral Beauty Scopas Tang Orange Zoos Green Zoos Red Shrooms Green Monti frag Everything seems to be doing good. I am having some trouble keeping the temp stable due to very cold un-San Diego-like weather over...
  5. Calcium Reactor set-up - need assistance

To go back to what you guys were saying about "getting your tank in balance to start", what should those numbers be? What is a good starting point for a balance between PH, Alk, and CA? My tank right now has a CA of 380ppm, Alk of 9.1, and a PH of 8.1. I want to get the CA up to 420 or so...
  6. electical help!!

Add up the wattage of everything plugged into the strip and make sure you are not overloading it. I would be suspect of the strip. Replace it with one that does not have all of the surge suppression crap in it. Don't cheap out on it either. The problem may be the pump, but the strip is...

  10. Closed loops

I was wondering....What should be put on the intake of a closed loop system? Is a regular strainer adequate or should it be something else? How deep into the tank should it be? I have a glass tank so my intake will have to go up and over the top of the tank but if the intake is too far into...
  11. My basement plumbed 150 reef

Looks beautiful! Nice job. I don't have a basement, so I put a shed in the backyard and ran a 5" pipe between the house and shed for the plumbing. The basement thing looks like it would work better. Maybe on my next house. Keep us updated with the pics.
  12. First saltwater tank

On the sandbed question...I ran a 90g with a 6" sandbed for four years and I feel that it worked great. I had a plethera of worms, bugs, and creepy crawlies that all of my research told me was good. Read up on some of Ron Shimek's articles on the subject. 6" is probably a little big...I am...
  13. Using Liquid Calcium to kill Aiptasia

Cool...I already own a Seasquirt. Thanks I will try that. I have one small aiptasia on a rock that is very easy to remove and when I saw it I realized I better figure out how to deal with it before it gets to be a problem.
  14. Using Liquid Calcium to kill Aiptasia

What do you inject the aiptasia with? I have not been able to get a needle from anywhere. Is there a device that works well that is easy to get?
  15. T5's whats al the hype???

Actually, SE halide lamps are design to be used horizontally. The only real differences between the SE and DE bulbs are design issues. They both put out the amount, quality, and duration that they were designed for.
