  1. New MAC program

The object of the licensed retailer program is to get certified organisms that make it to the import level to the consumer. We have a small amount of product that comes into the US and UK but never makes it to the consumer because there arent enough certified retail stores. So we are trying to...
  2. New MAC program

The basic requirements would be as follows: 1. Do you pledge to properly segregate and label certified and non-certified organisms using separate holding and display tanks? 2. Do you have a system of traceability in place that can document the source of origin and chain of custody for certified...
  3. New MAC program

Well I dont think MAC needs millions of dollars to do its job - we only need millions of dollars if we try to do it ourselves - which didnt work. We would rather see MAC as a modest, $250k-$500k per year NGO, that works with the industry to achieve sustainability through the implementation of...
  4. New MAC program

The new MAC web site we are launching will have a summary of what we are trying to accomplish by the end of this year. The concept of the Licensed Retailer Program is that we have all of this certified product that gets to the US and EU but then gets sold to retailers who, because they are not...
  5. What's up with the MAC web site?

MAC's new website is going up this weekend. The old site was so outdated that we had to take it down. We dont consider it to be a marketing problem because everyone supports or hates MAC anyway. Yes the original logo of MAC was modified from MSC, as were many other system components, such as...
  6. MAC Interim Director

Lots of CDT talk here. But overall, why do you think MAC should design or fund the CDT product? This would help me understand where we can go with this discussion. Dave PS: Wayne, i agree with your points and will discuss them further with colleages and stakeholders.
  7. Cyanide Testing

I am open to CDT if it can work. I dont think $100k can deliver a final product to be used, but moreso to explore how it would and could be done and a prototype model. That being said, im surprised there is so much debate on this topic here. If we can do it, why not do it? Maybe i am missing...
  8. MAC Interim Director

To answer one other question: we didnt dilute our resources working with establishing mariculture and aquaculture standards. We received specific grants to perform that work. Just like what is happening in Philippines and Indonesia, donor funded work, but at a much different scale. Regards, Dave
  9. MAC Interim Director

Well i just found out that the page scrolls on this thread so i have missed quite a lot, but in some ways at least it brings out the reality that you can never please everyone in a web forum. In general, I dont believe MAC to be a failure at all. Its just taking longer than expected and...
  10. MAC Interim Director

Dear all. I am just here to help provide some information. I dont have all the answers. Therefore, i dont see it getting very bloody as it has in previous times. We all have to remember that MAC has attempted to take on a huge endeavor, almost unilaterally. Such a plan will never work in...
  11. MAC Interim Director

Thanks Mitch and hello Jamie. To answer the easier question - MAC is currently in negotations with Reefcheck Foundation to put out an RFP for the design of a new CDT. $100k will be put up, $50k from each organization, using grant funds. While there is no guarantee a workable test can and will...
