However, water can not be more than its "100%" saturation point.
After that point, additinal "surface area or agitation" provided from the bubbles in a skimmer accomplishes nothing (except for added waste removal via adhesion to the surface of those little bubles of course).
Its safe to say...
I have been trying to run my tank "nutrient" poor as I have recently had an algae bloom, which prompted me to replace my 22 month old NO flourscent bulbs with 322w worth of power compacts.
Now I have an algae dye off in process and i've cut back on feedings.
I noticed my tangs have been...
Ive been noticing my yellow tang wiggling his dorsal spine at the glass...I thought he was scratching (I recently raised my salt levels in prep for upgrade from fo to reef)...but now I think some of this may be the reflection issue...
My tank is 65G and has 2 Maxi-jet 1200s and 1 Prism Pro.
I was told to put in a third maxi-jet to get more "turbulent" flow but upon observing both my fish and an anemity, there apears to be too much "flow" as things get blown around.
My solution is to turn the little water directional things...
Take this for what its worth, my "gut feeling" is that if you keep your tank nutrient low and expect to change 1/2 of the sand bed every 5 years or so that they are a superior setup.
Perhaps lower maintenance on a "week to week" basis and higher maintence on a intermitten long term interval basis.
220W on a 90G?
Ive got 322W of Power compact over my 65 Gallon. (2x96 custom sealife on "orbit" style legs and 2x65 sitting directly on glass top-both with moon lights also and 10k/actinic combination in both fixtures) I know many have said MH looks better but honestly......the 322W power...
The difference between the standard model and the pro is like the difference between a bicycle and a BMW
I have had a Pro for 2 years and its rated for a 300g tank, runs silent, has ample yet dry foam, and rarely needs adjusting....and is about 3x to 4x the price.
I have the Pro version, its much bigger and has a magnet style pump...rated for 300G tank, virtually silent, skims very dry foam, and rarely needs adjusting....of course it costs on the order of 3x to 4x the price of the standard prizm.
Thanks for the replies so far.
I now have a new thing I would like opinions on....
Should I get the refugium now or later.....what kind and from who....and what size?
In 22 months that hasnt been a problem. I dont have any sand sifting life in there though. The sand has slightly "seeded" the coral but since my sand band is thicker than the layer of coral, even if it "completely" sinks, the coral will still be under a layer of pure sand.
I didnt know what...
Hello and thanks in advance.
I am seeking the opinions of experienced reef keepers on my current set up and what the next things YOU WOULD ADD if this were your system:
Tank: 65G 36x18x24
1'-2' inch of crushed coral (on bottom)
3'-5' inch argonite live sand (on top of crushed coral)
Roughly...
