  1. Back in the game....

I still have my old backpack filter (I think is it a CPR). Would that do well, or have there been technological advances since that last time I went to a store (1999) that would be worth looking into? Also, would it help for me to have 2 back pack filters? D
  2. Back in the game....

Yeah, that is the idea. To be fair, I leave early Monday morning and get back Thurday afternoon. D
  3. Anyone got one of these?

My buddies roomate in college bought one of those and put it into his tank as a birthday present. The thing ate 2 tangs and was impossible to get out of the tank. In fact, he did not get rid of the thing until he took the tank down after graduation. I would recommend staying away! D
  4. Back in the game....

Hello all! It’s been a while since I have posted on the site, so long in fact that my ID had been deactivated. I am happy to see that reefs.org is alive and well. After a long break, I have decided to get back into the hobby and I am looking for some advice. I had kept tanks of various...

  6. Snow Flake Eel Questions

Yeah, my snowflake is only about six inches or so. I used screen (the same kind you see in screen windows) to cover most of the holes. In all honestly though, if it wants to get out, it will. I figure if I can keep him fed unitl I come up with a better solution, then that is about the best I...
  7. Snow Flake Eel Questions

Thanks for the info/advice, everyone. I think that I have everything covered with the exception of the whole secure tank thing. I have a six inch hood with power compacts. So there is a gap at the back of the tank that is not cover by the hood. How would you all (or how have you) recommend...
  8. Snow Flake Eel Questions

Reefers, I just bought a small Snow Flake eel for my reef. I have done my reading, but was wondering if anyone had any insights that I should know about. Favorite food? Known problems or emenies? Sicknesses I should look for? Growth rate? Any info would be greatly...
  9. corals touching

One of two things will happen. #1 The Xenia will grow over the Polyps. Or #2 The Polyps will grow over the Xenia. If I was you, I would start cutting back both and keep a line between the two. I have the same problem with star polyps and Xenia. Every other week I cut both back and...
  10. Emerald Crab and Torch Problems

So I was checking out branching Torch and noticed that my small Emerald crab was hanging out in between two of the arms. I have had this piece for about a year or so, and it has grown nicely. However, recently I notice that on different days , different arms were always closed up. I finally...
  11. Sandsifting Goby selection

Munchieiam, I had a Lawnmower in my tank at the time. Got along fine with the gold head. However the Diamond Head had issues, whenever the Lawnmower came too close. Ty, Good issues that you rise against owning these fish. I really liked the behavior, but ended up trading the Diamond...
  12. Brown "Dust" in my tank???

Really, I thought diatoms were only found on the glass. Interesting idea, I will try to use better water and see what happens. Thanks for the info. Derek Anyone else have any ideas?
  13. Sandsifting Goby selection

I have had two different kinds of goby in my tank at one time or another. First I had a Gold Head Sleeper Goby, and after a rogue crab got him, I bought a Diamond Head Goby. Both do about the same thing, but in my experience, Diamond Heads need more space (that should not be an issue in your...
  14. Brown "Dust" in my tank???

Hey all, Okay, so I have had my 25G reef tank set up for about 1.5 years or so. It’s been through its ups and downs, but overall it is looking great. My question to all of you is, what is this brown stuff that is sitting on top of my sand. It is not algae or fungus or anything like that...
  15. frog and bubble meet

Had the same problem and use a powerhead to "push" the bubble tip way from the frog. Took a little attention, but worked pretty well. Hope this helps. Derek
