  1. so what do ya'll use to scrape algea off yr acrylic?

Where did you get the Magnavore? Are they acrylic safe or do you put a pad on the inside? Does it float? Thanks
  2. Aquarium Fish Magazine

Is Aquarium Fish Magazine any good? What topics to they typically cover? Thanks
  3. reactor problems

Your CO2 is mostly likely leaking, and most likely at the regulator connection. This happened to me several times with my reactor. Take some soapy water and drip it all over the regulator and look for leaks. In general I use thread tape and then replaced the rubber O-ring with either the black...
  4. Seriously Considering CA Reactor

Yes consider the myreef or Geo. A commercial reactor is expensive. Reactors are quite simple devices. I love running a reactor. From time to time I also drip kalk at night. The reactor allows me to go away for work and not worry about having someone mix kalk or dose 2 part for me. The whole...
  5. nitrate levels

If you have a reef tank your goal will probably be 0 ppm. Fish only can tolerate higher than this, but many corals cannot. Please tell us what you have in your tank.
  6. calcium reactor questions...

I pretty much do what jdeets said. At first you might want to dial it in to a pH of 6.5-6.7. Measure Alk and Ca and make some adjustments. After that you will pretty much leave it alone.
  7. X-10 controls experience??????

I have been using X-10 on my tanks for 2 years. I run lights, powerheads, a chiller, a heater and some fans. I have had 2 appliance units fail that were running the powerheads and turning on and off all day long (24/7).
  8. Is this skimmer too big?

You should visit the AETech site for more information: ETSS 800 At the bottom it states "Note: A Mak4 or GenX pump cannot run this skimmer effectively." It's probably a little too big for your tank. It's rated for 200-500 gallon tanks. They also work best with the output of the skimmer above...
  9. Precision Marine VS K2R Reactors

I was using a K2R. It seemed to work fine. I think the best advice is to use your return pump to feed your reactor. If you use a powerhead you will get some inconsistent results. Now I am using a dual stage Geo. It costs less than 1/2 of the K2R. Same results. I have only been running it...
  10. Reef Devil 3 help? uh oh...

The gate valve adjusts the water/foam level in the column. This adjusts how much is skimmer and how wet/dry the skimmate is. Make small adjustments to the valve (1/4 turn) and wait a day and see how it skims. Raising the water level will get you more (wetter) skimmate. Lowering the water...
  11. Flat worm like creature out of control

I had them pretty bad. I don't think you can ever completely get rid of them. I did however win the battle and I only see them once in a while. I shiphoned them every day. On weekends I would siphon more than once a day. By removing them you reduce their numbers. By changing the water...
  12. 1' long mama mia worms (spaghetti)

They are good. I have purchased them in the past.
  13. Should clam be fed?

Lights and calcium. Lots of both. Did I mention lights and calcium? After that I would suggest phytoplankton. Croceas are finicky. If the clam gets happy, just leave it alone. If you move them around and such, they get stressed pretty easily. They seem to attach to the rock much quicker...
  14. Help with Flatworms

Very hard to get rid of flatworms. Syphon them and get your water perfect so they wont have much to live on. Flying Fish is selling the nubibranch that is reported to each flatworms. I have never tried it. Anyone? Flying Fish Express-Collector's Corner Link is to their page with all their...
